Manchester United Transfer List Four Players as Erik Ten Hag Prepares for a Major Overhaul at Old Trafford

A busy summer transfer window is expected at Old Trafford, after Manchester United endured a hugely disappointing 2021-22 season. The Red Devils have been linked to several players as potential signings. Multiple players are expected to depart to free up space for the arrivals and clear up the wage bill too.

Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani have already confirmed their departure this summer. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata are also likely to leave as their contracts are set to expire at the end of this month.

As per The Athletic, the Red Devils will have about £120million to spend in the upcoming transfer window. Player sales could further boost their transfer budget. The report states that new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has transfer listed four players who will be shipped out in the summer:

1. Anthony Martial:

Anthony Martial struggled for minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho last summer. The Frenchman mustered a paltry 212 minutes across 8 games, 6 of them coming off the bench.

Martial was loaned to La Liga side Sevilla in the January transfer window but has struggled to make an impact. In 9 league games under Lopetegui, the former AS Monaco forward has managed just one assist and no goals. The 25-year-old managed one goal from 3 appearances in the Europa League. Sevilla confirmed that they would not sign Martial permanently, and the forward would return to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are scouting Antony and Darwin Nunez to add depth to their front line this summer. Martial is unlikely to see any minutes if he persists at Old Trafford, and is almost guaranteed to leave. The Frenchman could be included in a deal with Benfica over the transfer of Nunez.

2. Axel Tuanzebe:

Axel Tuanzebe has spent the entire 2021-22 season on loan, with two different clubs. The 24-year-old was first moved to Aston Villa after signing a two-year extension with United. After just 11 appearances under Dean Smith, the Red Devils recalled the Congo international.

Tuanzebe was loaned out to Napoli in January and has endured a hugely disappointing spell in Italy. The youngster missed a month due to a back injury and has managed just  2 appearances. He is expected to return to Old Trafford but has an uncertain future. Graham Potter’s Brighton are reportedly tracking the centre-back.

3. Eric Bailly:

Eric Bailly has fallen behind Maguire, Lindelof and Varane in the pecking order at United. The former Villarreal defender has managed just 7 appearances this season, and has been underwhelming for large parts. United have been heavily linked with Jurrien Timber and Pau Torres to reinforce their backline this summer.

Bailly was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan in the winter transfer window. The 28-year-old has already informed his teammates that he will leave this summer. Ligue 1 clubs Lyon and Marseille are reportedly interested in signing the centre-back.

4. Phil Jones:

Many fans perhaps forgot that Jones played for United anymore. The Englishman had made 0 appearances last season, and just 8 in the one before that. Rangnick gave the 29-year-old two unexpected starts – against Wolves and Liverpool in the Premier League this season. Jones also made 3 appearances off the bench.

Similar to Bailly, the arrival of new signings could push Jones completely out of the scheme at Old Trafford. Reports suggest that Pau Torres could inherit his Number “4” jersey if the Spaniard does join the Red Devils. Jones has also reportedly informed his teammates that his 11-year stay at Old Trafford will be coming to an end this summer.

There are other players who’s futures remain uncertain too. Alex Telles could leave if he is not guaranteed regular minutes under Ten Hag. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, while Dean Henderson could also depart on a loan deal to Newcastle United.

Should the Red Devils sell these players? Who else could Manchester United move in the summer transfer window? Let us know in the comments.
