Out-of Favour Manchester United Forward Emerges As Shock Transfer Target For Arsenal

Marcus Rashford, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham

Arsenal are ready to offer an escape route to Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford. According to The Mirror, Arsenal are plotting a move for the 24-year-old forward at the end of this season. Rashford has lost his place in the United starting line-up and has also been excluded from the England squad after a huge dip in form.

Rashford began contemplating his future at Old Trafford after being left out of the starting line-up in the Manchester Derby. He has fallen down the pecking order after the summer arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. Moreover, he has only started 10 games out of the 29 games United have played in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners are looking forward to strengthening their attack in the summer and the English forward can certainly help them solve their attacking issues. Arsenal are looking for two strikers in the summer and Marcus Rashford can play both as a striker and also as a left-winger. However, signing a player from their direct rivals will be a tough task.

Why Is Arsenal Offering An Escape Route To Marcus Rashford?

Marcus Rashford has the potential to become one of the best players in Europe. He possesses all the qualities of a left-winger in terms of chance creation and pace. He is very comfortable in taking on defenders and beating them, while also being adept at making runs behind them. Rashford does well even when combining with a left-back who works on the same wavelength as him.

He has also played as a number 9 for United on multiple occasions which is what Arsenal needs right now. He has struggled with finishing in the past, having preferred to go with power rather than placement. However, that seems to have changed in the recent goals he has scored for United. Moreover, he doesn’t cross the ball much but when he does, he usually finds one or two heads.

Rashford also has the powerful knuckle shot in him. He could be lethal in long-range shots as the knuckleballs confuse the goalkeeper completely at times. Considering Rashford’s quality and his past form, he could directly get into Arsenal’s starting lineup. This could result in Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe moving to the bench while improving their squad depth.

Should The Gunners Push To Sign Rashford Or Should They Look For Alternatives?

Manchester United fans will not support this move from Rashford as he will be going towards their direct rivals. The Old Trafford faithful were never stressed about Rashford’s situation. However, the Manc-born-and-bred has forced the United fans to seriously think about his future after the massive dip in performances.

He is struggling to beat even a single defender this season on most occasions. He has failed to create a single moment of magic this term. This was not the case in the seasons before as he led United’s attack in the past two seasons. He has produced many moments of magic with his regular nutmegs and knuckleballs at United but has completely lost the touch this season.

Considering his future with United also questions his mentality. He is thinking of leaving the club after one bad season despite having a lot to play next season. Moreover, he was expecting to start the Manchester derby despite his string of poor performances. This can happen at Arsenal also as he can receive some backlash from the United fans if he completes the move.

Arsenal currently needs players who can deliver them quick success. They have the players they need for the long-term and have taken the necessary steps to reach here. They now have to make the jump to become a trophy-winning side and need those two or three signings that will change their fortunes.

Similar to what Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have done for Liverpool. However, Marcus Rashford might not be the correct player to go with to make that jump. He is a developing product that will need more time to reach his peak level.
