Setting The Scene

[spacer height=”20px”]

Manchester United have made a great start to their Champions League campaign with a win at home against FC Basel.

[spacer height=”20px”]

CSKA Moscow ride on an away win against Benfica at Lisbon.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Both sides have made a fair start in the Champions League this season. Both would want to win to keep the momentum going.

United So Far

[spacer height=”20px”]

Manchester United kicked off their 2017/18 Champions League season to the best possible start with a 3-0 win at Old Trafford against FC Basel a fortnight ago.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Since then, the Red Devils have stretched their winning run to four games in all competitions with wins in the Premier League and League Cup.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Wins against Everton and Southampton in the Premier League and a 4-1 thumping of Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup has extended their unbeaten run to 8 games in all competions.

[spacer height=”20px”]

This has been the best start for the Reds since the Ferguson era. United are current joint leaders in the Premier League along with Manchester City.

[spacer height=”20px”]

United also top Group A in Champions League with 3 points.

CSKA Moscow’s Start To The Season

[spacer height=”20px”]

CSKA Moscow kicked off the Champions League campaign with an 2-1 away win at Lisbon against Benfica. Currently, they sit second in the group.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The Russian team made a mixed start to the domestic season with 20 points in 11 League games. They finished runner-ups in the previous season behind Spartak.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The Militarians currently sit in fourth place in the Russian Premier Liga.

[spacer height=”20px”]

CSKA Moscow go into this tie on the back of a goalless draw against Dinamo and an early Russian Cup exit in the hands Avangard Kursk.

[spacer height=”20px”]

But Goncharenko’s side saved their best efforts for the European games. They cruised past the Champions League qualifying round against AEK Athens and BSC Young Boys without conceding a goal.
