Breaking | United Defender Confirms Desire To Leave Despite Injury Crisis

Matteo Darmian to United, Darmian moves to Juventus from United

United full back Matteo Darmian has revealed that he wants to leave Manchester United this summer following his lack of game time in previous season.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Since joining Manchester United from Torino in 2015, he has very less often made a place for himself in the starting eleven. The 28 years old Italian has made his decision that he will be leaving the club this summer following the signing of the 19 years old Portuguese full back Diego Dalot from FC Porto.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Current first team right-back Antonio Valencia’s calf injury and Diego Dalot’s knee injury has made an opening for Darmian in the team, but he is adamant to leave. Manchester United face Leicester City next week in opening Premier League match and Mourinho will be short of a right back if Darmian leaves. Darmian was captain during pre-season friendly against his former club AC Milan in Los Angeles. He was asked about his future after the match.

“Yes, I still want to leave, that is what I want. But we will see what happens because we don’t know. I don’t think the injury of Antonio Valencia is a big injury. I don’t know how long he needs to stay out, but at the moment he is the captain, he’s first choice.[spacer height=”20px”]

I want to play more regularly. Last season I didn’t play much – that’s my objective and my ambition. That’s why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future.”[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Darmian has made satisfactory performance under the former Manchester United Manager Louis Van Gal but has plummeted significantly since the appointment of Jose Mourinho. Last season the Italian has started only five Premier League matches and appeared in 17 matches in all competitions which he believes is too less by his standards.[spacer height=”30px”]

Former Torino and AC Milan man has showed his interest in going back to Italy and when asked about is return to Serie A he said, “It’s an option. Yes, probably”.[spacer height=”30px”]

Various Italian clubs such as Juventus, Napoli, Torino and inter Milan have apparently showed interest in signing Darmian. Juventus has been persistently pursuing for Darmian since their full back Lichsteiner has departed for Arsenal in this window. Napoli also has shown the same amount of interest.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Manchester United is open to let the Italian depart only if they get valued money for him. Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho earlier this week talked about keeping Darmian at Old Trafford.[spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]
“Darmian is a fantastic guy and a tremendous pro. He’s the kind of guy who is always ready to give what he has. [spacer height=”20px”]

But he wants to leave and I think when a player wants to leave if the right offer arrives you have to be human and let the player follow his instincts, but not at any price. [spacer height=”20px”]

Until now the offers we have got for Matteo are not even close to being accepted.” [spacer height=”20px”]

– Mourinho on Darmian[/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]Darmian is the another player after Anthony Martial in the recent times to ask for more game time in the forthcoming season but according to sources Anthony Martial has been asked to sign a one-year contract extension.[spacer height=”30px”]

The Red Devils boss has told the reporters that he will make two more transfers, most probably in defence. Reports claims that German defender Jerome Boateng is on Jose Mourinho’s radar after his injury stricken season has cost him place in the first team at Bayern Munich. [spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is also Jose Mourinho’s prime transfer target for defence following his great performances at the World Cup. Chelsea’s winger Willian is also top on United transfer target list. [spacer height=”30px”]

I strongly believe that Manchester United need to come back strong this season, fans are still waiting for the Fergie era to come back where the Red Devils stood Champions in almost all competitions.[spacer height=”30px”]

Phil Jones proved to be very effective last season but unfortunately sustained injury and had to rest off for the remaining of the season. Marcos Rojo is great defender out there and he gave a hint of it in the FIFA World Cup 2018. Chris Smalling played well in the beginning of the last season but slowly went down in defence and eventually lost his place in the starting eleven. Eric Bailly proved to be one of the best signing in defence but he still isn’t able to cope up with the premier league game pace. [spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Luke Shaw was one of the brightest upcoming talents when United signed him but has rarely started or even played in the last season due to his frequent injuries. 33 year old right-back Antonio Valencia has played very well last season and has even led the team for a major part of last season. He even scored a couple of exceptional screamers that made fans believe in him. Dalot too is wonderkid signed from Porto as a substitute for Valencia, is expected to keep up to his expectations in the defence.[spacer height=”30px”]

The midfield and attack of Manchester United is sound good enough with Pogba’s physicality and vision in midfield, Lukaku’s pace with physicality and Sanchez’s agility in attack besides Rashford and Lingards’ brilliant chemistry and Matic’s stolid performance in the defensive midfield.[spacer height=”30px”]

Manchester United need to sign some best defenders in this transfer window who complement to the resilient midfield and attack so that United gets back to its winning ways.[spacer height=”30px”]
