Arsenal are Actually Resigned to Letting Ozil go for Free if he Refuses to Leave in the Summer

Mesut Ozil, Mesut, Ozil transfer, German playmaker, Arsenal

The Mesut Ozil saga has been one of the most awkward, embarrassing and complex standoffs in Premier League history. There has been the odd incident involving a player and his club, where one or the other has felt justified in their actions.

There have also been irreconcilable differences between the manager, coaching staff and the player or the manager and club over the handling of a player, but nothing eclipses Mesut Ozil’s last three seasons at Arsenal.

High profile spats of recent years have included the likes of Costa/Conte/ChelseaSanchez/Arsenal, and Arnautović/West Ham, but Ozil’s is a case like no other and has made Arsenal’s board look like a group of shambolic amateurs.

A virtual outcast, unwanted, unappreciated, embraced, welcomed back and integrated are all part of Ozil’s Arsenal experience and although it’s absolutely clear that Mesut has no long term future at Arsenal and that the club wants to offload him, he insists that he is not leaving.

In the game of the first one to blink, the German midfielder is standing tall, biding his time and remaining expressionless. However, the truth is that this bravado is bound to fail because Arsenal have no intention of renewing his contract, especially on his current astronomical wage.

If Arsenal had their way, Mesut Ozil would already be on loan or sold off because they apparently looked at ways of shipping him out in January, but the player wouldn’t enter into discussions and the club were unable to move any prospective deal forward.

Are Arsenal now Counting on FA Cup Glory to Salvage Their Season

Mesut has to face facts and it’s highly likely that Arsenal will be in the hunt for a younger, more dynamic midfielder with the likes of Feyenoord’s Orkun Kocku rumored to be a target. That’s without the likes of academy prospects such as Willock, Smith Rowe and Maitland Niles, who will be looking to take up a central midfield role in the next campaign.

That’s means that Mesut Ozil could be the third choice for his last season and how sad would that be after the embarrassment he suffered under Unai Emery.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
