Football is extremely unpredictable but on occasion, normally through fate or necessity, it allows players that propel them onto the big stage and catapult them onto the road to stardom. Miguel Azeez could be about to get his chance this season to fill the creative void at Arsenal with his particular brand of youthful enthusiasm.
The midfielder is said to be the one prospect from the academy who is universally hailed by everyone involved with the group of youngsters at under 18 and 21 levels. He has grown up as a Gunner from the age of five and has developed a wealth of gifts that once saw him dubbed as the new Vieira, and although I disagree with that comparison, he genuinely is an exciting prospect.
If we have to go down the comparisons route, then I’d go with Cesc Fabregas, based purely on his ability to seize an opportunity by providing a quality pass. He can read a game better than most players of his age and even better than some seasoned professionals.
During an interview with football expert Guillem Balague, the 18-year-old midfield prospect revealed that he idolizes Sergio Busquets and models his game on the Barcelona player. The academy graduate also tries to emulate Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira and counts the Frenchman as one of his idols.
Miguel Azeez seems to have an uncanny ability to slow down the game in his head and select an appropriate pass. It’s a real skill and very few possess it at this level, Liam Brady was capable of such things and this is one of the main reasons that he is regarded so highly.
His movement and touch are silky smooth, which causes the opposition to be constantly wrong-footed. It’s certain that Azeez is a baller by the way he holds it, moves with it, and distributes it. For me, he is far ahead of several youth players that have already broken into the first team.
Arteta needs someone with creative flair, but also someone who can defend when required. Miguel Azeez ticks all the boxes and has added a physicality to his game that is irresistible at this moment and when it’s clear that Arsenal need something different now, why not take a chance.
