Manchester United’s 4 game winless streak finally came to end against Newcastle yesterday. That too in style, with a classic United comeback, from being 2-0 down at half-time to winning 3-2. An inspired comeback in the last 20 minutes of the game. With Sanchez scoring a 90th-minute winning header, he might just have saved Mourinho s job for the time being.

In the post-match interview, Jose claimed that he is being cast as the subject of a “manhunt”. Here’s what Jose said following United’s remarkable comeback against Newcastle..

On the “Manhunt”:

Mourinho came out ranting on the stick he has been receiving from the media and the pundits in the recent weeks.

“I go to London tonight, if it rains in London tomorrow, it’s my fault. If there is a problem with Brexit, it’s my fault, This is new, it makes me not just a better manager but even a better person. I understand things in the human nature nowadays and in the industry where I work, I used to love it, I still love it is but it is different.”

On the players:

When asked about the comeback and the fight his team put in, Jose said:

“I think there is too much talk and you put in doubt the honesty and the professionalism of the players. One thing is you can’t do better and another thing is you don’t want to do better and another is you can do better but don’t cope well with the feelings surrounding your environment but I think the players showed they wanted to win the match.”

The fightback saw substitute Juan Mata net a perfect free-kick in the 70th minute, Martial equalised six minutes later with a snapshot at the near-post and Alexis Sanchez, who also came on as a substitute, headed home the winner in the 90th minute.

On the Fans:

From being booed at half-time to his name being cheered by the fans following Sanchez’s winner, it was a day of mixed emotions for Jose. Mourinho acknowledged the United fans at the ground for their support and described them as “absolutely amazing”, and added:

“My happiness about the victory is not because of myself, is because of the fans and the players.”

The win might just have eased the pressure on Mourinho a bit, where reports in media strongly claimed about him being sacked after the game regardless of the outcome. However, United fans were in a different mood who came out with banners depicting their full support to Jose. The fans were in a good mood and it could be said they have full faith in Mourinho to turn it around for them.

This inspired comeback could prove to be the spark that United have seemed to miss from last season. Mourinho seems to be the right man for the job as he has proved time and again, rest assured with the United hierarchy what they deem fit for the club’s present and future.
