Jose Mourinho has reportedly contacted Napoli for possibly signing one of their top players, Dries Mertens which may strengthen the United’s attack.
It is speculated that United’s boss Jose Mourinho had urged United’s board to sign Napoli’s striker, Dries Mertens, who has been linked to a move to Manchester in the summer ahead of 2018-19 season.
The Belgian have been playing for the Serie-A team since 2013. But he has taken up the role of a striker since 2016 and has taken the league by the storm since then.
In the 2016-17 season, he scored an impressive 28 goals for the Italian club, a tally which was only bettered by Edin Dzeko.
Mertens has scored an impressive 45 league goals for Napoli over the last 2 years. On a total, he has scored 89 goals for Napoli in 230 appearances.
Even after his explosive form, he still remains as one of the most affordable strikers in the Italian league. Napoli has priced his release clause to be of just 25 million pounds, which is a very good bargain.
The 30-year-old has been linked to United after they suffered a loss against Brighton. His incredibly affordable fees, his versatility and understanding has attracted the United’s boss to sign the Belgian.
Jose Mourinho slammed the United players after the match in the post match interview for having less desire to win than the Brighton players.

It is also being speculated that Marouane Fellani could be used as a player swap. Fellani has shown his interest in leaving United since January, and he could be moving to Napoli in exchange for his fellow Belgian player, even though Jose is positive that Fellani would not leave the club.
The addition of Dries Mertens to United’s forward line would be very effective. With Lukaku’s injury, it was thought that Rashford and Martial would be the best options, but their performance in the Premier League against Brighton didn’t help their case.

Dries Mertens can be one of the best bargains that Mourinho can land, as United need a strong striker to play alongside Lukaku and Sanchez if they want to catch up with the runaway champions Manchester City in the next season.
What happens in the future is yet to be seen, whether the United boss signs Mertens or he goes for some other option is still unknown and one can only hope that if this signing does takes place, then it’s result may come in favour of United.
