Is It Time To Bring Back This Lethal 19 Year Winger Who is Tearing Up The Bundesliga, Back to The Emirates ?

Nelson, Arsedevils, Reiss Nelson

Unai Emery has an uncertain financial budget for his transfer plans and this maybe hampered further by an inability to raise significant funds by selling a number of misfit fringe players that haven’t exactly set the Emirates alight during their time in an Arsenal shirt. Although the manager should not forget about the players who went on loan to solve the ongoing winger issues, Reiss Nelson, in particular.

Emery is obviously planning for every scenario and therefore it’s no surprise to learn that he may even be considering an extension to Danny Welbeck’s contract for another season or so.

If Emery didn’t have enough to concentrate on already, he now has to juggle his current options for two likely outcomes. He generates the much needed revenue by finishing 4th or wins the Europa league or misses out on both and has to settle for the meagre funds invisible Stan Kroenke grudgingly makes available.

Whatever the outcome, Emery is looking at his academy players to fill the holes in his plans and that is far from a bad thing. Most Arsenal supporters that I have spoken to have never been so excited by the young talent within Arsenal’s ranks and some even think that limited transfer deals will benefit the club in the long term.

Others are looking for big name additions but that’s probably the stuff of fantasy rather than reality. Emery may well be able to bring in two experienced player but the first team squad will feature more young players over the next two or three seasons and the most anticipated regular starter is surely Reiss Nelson.

Of course, Arsenal could consider leaving Nelson out on loan for another season of top flight football with Hoffenheim after a decent first season but more likely, it has already been decided to bring him home.

Nelson could be a revelation given playing time and believe me, it is coming. Confidence, poise, balance and flair are all words that fit the player.

Nelson has pace and superb close ball control and as a winger with a forwards eye, he is able to cut in and strike from acute angels or provide a low powerful pass into the box for others to profit.

His directness causes panic in defences as he cuts in from wide or drifts out from the centre. Nelson is very versatile and has even filled in at right back but his best position is probably on the right of midfield.

You often see players peddling in reverse with their legs crisscrossing awkwardly in an effort to stop or catch him.
Nelson is a full backs nightmare because he is unpredictable and will drift to where he can collect the ball or into positions where he can move the ball up field.

Nelson may well become the player Theo Walcott should have been.

Arsene Wenger said of Nelson,

“As strikers or creative players, you tend to have two kinds of players. Some who are good at running with the ball, and some who are good at running off the ball.

He’s more a player who likes the ball to his feet and provokes opponents by passing them.”

Arsenal’s new coach Unai Emery has been following Nelson carefully and said,

“With Reiss, we are very happy with him at the moment.

“We follow him every match. We are thinking how he can help us in the future.

“He can take responsibility, minutes and confidence in a team where he can play more. Then the objective is to come back with us and grow with this experience.”

With the explosion of young talent in England at the moment, Nelson is in prime position to exert an influence for club and country.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
