Newcastle United Considering Summer Move for €25m Rated Man United Veteran, Club Set High Asking Price for Midfielder

Scott McTominay, Newcastle United

According to fresh reports, Newcastle United are considering making a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. Although the Scotsman is viewed as a valuable member of the team, the Red Devils will let him leave Old Trafford only at the right price.

Scott McTominay joined the Manchester United academy in 2013 and has been a part of the club since then. He played through the youth sides before making his debut for the senior team under Jose Mourinho in 2017. The midfielder has made 205 appearances for the Red Devils till date.

The Scotland international has had some ups and downs, some remarkable moments like his goal against Manchester City from almost the halfway line. However, his game time has suffered under Erik ten Hag, especially after the signings of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Marcel Sabitzer and is now mostly a bench warmer at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United have taken a liking towards Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. The Magpies are said to be big admirers of the 26-year-old and are looking to make a move in the summer transfer window.

However, the Red Devils are in no hurry to sell the Scottish midfielder as he is deemed as an important member of Erik ten Hag’s team. Moreover, he has a contract with United running till the summer of 2025 along with the option to extend for another 12 months.

Consequently, the 20-time English champions have slapped a £50 million price tag on the Scotsman, as per the report. The bosses at United are well aware of the cover that Scot can provide and will not sell him, unless the right price is paid for him.

Scott McTominay scored two crucial goals against Spain for Scotland in the UEFA Euro Qualifiers recently. He has also scored a goal for United in their crucial win against Everton earlier this month. Former manager Jose Mourinho even preferred playing him over the talented Paul Pogba at times because of discipline issues.

The Scotland international is a very good option to have when either Casemiro or Eriksen gets injured or suspended. However, with his skill set, the midfielder could be starting for another Premier League side on a regular basis. Newcastle United play rather physical football and Scott McTominay can help them improve their game in the middle of the park.

Should Manchester United Keep or Sell Scott McTominay?

Scott McTominay was one to look out for during his early years at United. He lived up to the expectations for a few seasons, but he received some backlash when he got paired up with Fred. The duo was criticised heavily for poor displays in big and as well as routine matches.

The 26-year-old has had plenty of impressive displays, but it is the inconsistency that has been a cause of concern. He certainly has the quality and has displayed that on multiple occasions, but he needs to express on a more regular basis. The Scot is very good in terms of discipline but lacks the quality to grab the game by the scruff of its neck.

Moreover, it has been also seen that the Scotsman may produce a poor performance when United are under pressure or when they are playing a very important game. This is very opposite to that of players like Casemiro who embrace the pressure and use it to their advantage.

Nevertheless, manager Eddie Howe is capable of transforming Scott McTominay as a player as he has done already with the Newcastle United squad. The Magpies boss has transformed the team from being a relegation-fighting club to a team fighting for Champions League qualification.

Signing the 26-year-old will certainly be a big boost for the Toons. However, the Red Devils should only let him go if there’s a right offer on the table and if they found a correct replacement for the Scottish midfielder.
