You Kante be Serious :- Arsenal and Chelsea Doing More Business?

N'Golo Kante

According to the reports in the Express, Arsenal and Chelsea are looking to do business again in this transfer window and it seems that N’Golo Kante might be involved in some way. Speculation about a swap deal involving Kante and Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi is doing the rounds in London.

Arsenal fans have been very sceptical of any transfer business with London rivals Chelsea in recent years. The Gunners seem to always get the short straw in terms of any deal in the eyes of supporters, who have witnessed the disappointing acquisition of a spent Petr Cech and an inconsistent David Luiz.Only the recently signed Willian has managed to offer some hope of standard for semi-retired Chelsea players in need of the last payday, but it’s clear that the Gunners haven’t always had value for money.

In the other direction, Arsenal lost the services of Ashley Cole in his prime and the goal grabbing skills of Olivier Giroud, quite a level of disparity in anyone’s book. The latest name said to be migrating from South West London to North London is N’Golo Kante, which is an even more baffling move than Willian’s transfer.

N’Golo Kante is still an extremely valuable player, but he hasn’t enjoyed his time at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard after being used in an unfamiliar role and then suffering an injury. Lampard still praises the midfielder and claims to be keen to retain his services but with limited spaces in a star-studded and expensive team, a move could be on the cards.

If this were true, what would that say about Frank Lampard’s Chelsea and equally, what would it say about Arsenal? If Kante is fit and playing as he did for Leicester, he would be a fantastic addition to Arsenal but the Chelsea’s Kante can stay where he is, thank you very much.

It’s certainly not the player’s fault, Chelsea have more money than sense on occasion and after Leicester surprised everyone in becoming the Premier League champions in 2015-16, Chelsea scooped up Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante and although Kante looked superb in his first year for the Blues, his influence hasn’t matched his debut season.

Chelsea have a lot of competition for places and perhaps, Lampard secretly feels he has enough options to release Kante. However, the move might alienate Arsenal fans who are fed up with having surplus Chelsea players but at his best, Kante is a winner, a force, and a presence.

Is he the player Arsenal need? Not in my book I’m afraid and not for the obvious reasons. I’d rather we found a tall, competitive, physical specimen of our own that can, perhaps, offer the Premier League something different. The Frenchman on his day is a fabulous player but Arsenal have had their quota of Chelsea players for this season.
