Good Evening, Harry Maguire
We the Manchester United fans are delighted to see that at long last, you are moving to our club. Your move to Old Trafford has been imminent since the start of the summer transfer window. However, because of an apparent lack of funds and probably other transfer dealings, your deal certainly took its own time to materialise. Nevertheless, now that its all in the past, we are pleased about what we are getting in the current transfer window and you, Harry Maguire, are one of the primary reasons why.
I certainly remember watching you play for England in the FIFA World Cup 2018. You were simply terrific for the “Three Lions”, keeping their defense intact almost singlehandedly. It was heart-wrenching to see England bow out in the semifinals. But I liked the professionalism of yours when you returned to the Premier League with renewed vigor and dedication for the next season. Once again, you were rock solid for the Foxes at the heart of their defense.
When the transfer window of 2018-19 started, Jose Mourinho went in search of a defender and you were one of the long-standing ones linked with the club apart from Koulibaly and Toby Alderweirald. However, neither of the deals materialized and we had to play with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Victor Lindelof. Subsequently, our defense for that season was utterly fragile, easily assailable and porous as we shipped in 50+ goals in a single season.
Our Club, Our Passion:
Manchester United has been a brand over the years with a great history. Until Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm, we thrashed every opponent and overcame every challenge in both Premier League and Champions League. The word “Fergie Era” is enough to describe what we were in the good olden times. However, since the retirement of our legendary manager, we haven’t been up to the mark primarily because of the fact that along with losing our greatest manager ever, we also bid farewell to a group of solid defenders and midfielders who had formed the crux of United’s title winning squads for years. Since then, It’s been six seasons without a major silverware at Old Trafford. Along with your signing, our lost hopes have somewhat resurfaced. We, the fans are hoping to regain the lost crown of ours now and you have a pivotal role to play in that.
Your job at Old Trafford is not going to be an easy affair. With Ed Woodward paying a world-record fee of £80 million for you, its only natural that he will start to expect bigger and better things from you, as will we. Fans all around the world will expect the world from you and that’s okay.
Without a single kick of the ball, you’re already raised pretty high and that is a good thing. That means you are a Manchester United player backed by an army of passionate Manchester United fans all hungry for success and want to see the same hunger and drive in you as well. Something which has been lacking from the club for a very long time.
Personally, I expect you to be the player to form a rock-solid partnership with Victor Lindelof. Maybe gradually grow into a “Vidic-Ferdinand” Esque partnership with Lindelof that people down the years use an example to showcase how Premiership winning centre-backs should be like.
What Sir Alex Ferguson had once said, truly echoes still:
“Attack wins you games, but defense wins you titles”
Harry Maguire, we want you to be the one that can finally plug the holes in our defense which let in 50+ goals last season. We want you to be the defender that we are finally proud of. We want you to be the one that can finally join the likes of Neville, Vidic, Stam, Bruce, Pallister in United folklore.
Why Either Of Woodward Or Solskjaer Might Just Have To Pay The Price For United’s Transfer Dealings This Summer
We are ready to leave behind all our bitter memories of last season and the five before that and brace for the new season which will be starting in a week. Let us start to march on victoriously and collectively with one and one true objective of bringing Manchester United back to the very top where we belong. Thank you once again for choosing our club Harry Maguire rather than our cross-city rivals.
