Arsenal reportedly Submit £100 million Bid For World Cup Winning Superstar

Ousmane Dembele

Arsenal are reportedly preparing an £89 million offer for Ousmane Dembele after Unai Emery convinced the North London club to make a last-minute move, according to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.[spacer height=”30px”]

The Gunners have already had a fruitful transfer window under new gaffer Emery with the additions of Lucas Torreira, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Matteo Guendouzi in the Arsenal squad ahead of the 2018-2019 season and now it seems like Ousmane Dembele could be the final piece of puzzle amid constant speculations of the French winger coming to The Emirates.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The Barcelona winger, who tasted World Cup glory with France at Russia 2018, has been hanging out with Gunners stars Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Lacazette and Guendouzi during his summer break adding fuel to the rumours.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The 21-year-old only moved to Camp Nou in the summer of 2017, with Barcelona investing £93 million of the record-breaking fee they received from Paris Saint-Germain for Neymar in the promising Dortmund winger.[spacer height=”30px”]

However, early injury struggles with his first league start at Getafe, seeing him injuring his hamstring and being ruled out for four months prevented Ousmane Dembele from making the desired impact in Catalunya, though, as he took longer than anticipated to find his feet. The French international finished the season with 4 goals and 6 assists for Barcelona which was not enough to justify his £135.5 million price-tag.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]There is also the added competition of £35m signing Malcom, who joined the club from Bordeaux. According to Sport, Ousmane Dembele’s people have told the club their discomfort at the signing of Malcolm, considered a clear competitor with the Frenchman for a place in the team. He is said to be surprised that the club have signed a right footed winger with similar characteristics to him.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]However, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has remarked that Ousmane Dembele is unlikely to join the Emirates Stadium outfit after what they parted with to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. The Gabon international was acquired from Borussia Dortmund for a club-record fee of £56 million.Keown told Starsport:[spacer height=”20px”]

“I don’t know, maybe it’s good for the fans. I don’t see it happening. It seems like it’s an absolute fortune for the player. It doesn’t look likely.[spacer height=”20px”]

“But maybe the Arsenal fans are hoping for that sort of marquee signing. I think that work was done last year with Aubameyang.”[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]It does seem unlikely that Arsenal can afford Dembele since the club already have a net spend of €79 million this season. The only way a move for the World Cup winner looks possible is through a loan, potentially with an intention-to-buy clause that delays much of the financial burden to next year, still sees Dembele arrive at the club, and helps Barcelona move on from a player that they are ostensibly not pleased with.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Reportedly, an incredibly late bid for the superstar has been made by the club in the region of a 100 million pounds and according to reliable journalist Kike Marin who broke the news about Aubameyang, the final decision now remains upto the player however this seems too late into the day now with close to 3 hours left for the window to close. [spacer height=”30px”]

I personally believe that Arsenal landing Ousmane Dembele is too good to be true. The 21-year-old has already returned to Barcelona training over a week early to try and win his place in the side and it doesn’t make much sense for the Catalan club to sell him just one year after acquiring him for £135 million. With a restricted budget and the transfer deadline approaching, it seems unlikely that the French international will complete a move to The Emirates.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]However, I don’t believe that Arsenal could land a player like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang either and we all love the beautiful game for its unpredictability. So now we just have to wait and see what the future holds.[spacer height=”30px”]
