Petr Cech on what Arsenal need to learn from Jose Mourinho

Petr Cech has conceded that Arsenal do not share the same mentality as his former manager Jose Mourinho and may need to learn from his ‘win at all costs’ attitude’ something he believes they displayed at the tail end of last season.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The 35 year old shot stopper played under Jose for four seasons during the manager’s two spells at Stamford Bridge where he went on to collect 15 trophies in total in 10 years.

[spacer height=”30px”]

This has enabled him to draw comparisons between the two gaffers from which he believes that the approach that Mourinho preaches has an emphasis on winning at all costs whereas Wenger believes in winning the right way.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Gunners have made a poor start to the new season, picking up just three points from a possible 9 by losing two games including a horrendous 4-0 loss at Anfield .

[spacer height=”30px”]

And now Cech believes Arsenal may need to incorporate some of his old managers mentality if they are to end their 13 year wait for the premeir league crown.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Speaking to french outlet So Foot magazine translated via Evening Standard, Petr Cech has gone on to describe how his former manager emphasized on winning at all costs, and how it it different from his present managers mentality.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “When he [Mourinho] arrived at Chelsea from Porto, he brought with him one main thing: he came from a club where it was not acceptable to him to finish second in the championship. [spacer height=”20px”] He brought the same spirit to Chelsea. He thinks only about victory, whatever the price. [spacer height=”20px”] “He hates draws. If we returned to the dressing room with a draw, we knew he would not be satisfied. [spacer height=”20px”] On the other hand, he also wanted to be able to keep a 1-0 or beat a team 5-0 if possible. [spacer height=”20px”] No matter how, Mourinho wants the result. [spacer height=”20px”] The philosophy at Arsenal is completely opposed to this: it is not win at all costs but we want to win in a certain way. [spacer height=”20px”] This approach is beginning to change.” [spacer height=”20px”] “It is true that we are close to classical music, the beauty and the synchronisation of instruments,”  [spacer height=”20px”] “It is a philosophy now anchored in the genes of the club: they refuse to play without and it is passed on from generation to generation. [spacer height=”20px”] “I believe that the right balance has been found last months of last season. The idea is to continue to control the match but securing more behind.” [spacer height=”20px”] “When I arrived, there was Manchester United, not still really Chelsea, City did not count in the title race, Tottenham either. [spacer height=”20px”] “Today, the competition is crazy. Winning a match becomes more and more complicated each season.” [/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]

Certainly there is a thing or two to learn from what he has said.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Had Arsenal been more like that. we might managed something we deserved from our match against Stoke using all the possession and yet conceding and coming home empty handed.

[spacer height=”30px”]

From what he has described in the dressing room, I doubt the players under Mourinho would have dared to enter at all had they been playing like they did at Anfield.

[spacer height=”30px”]

No doubt the demanding standards that Mourinho sets for his players manages to bring out the best in them out on the pitch.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Fearing your managers wrath at half time is a good enough motivation to not let your club down on any day provided the manager is as skilled at tearing apart his players for their loose performances like Mourinho is.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Petr Cech is one of the few players in the dressing room who have won a league title and one of the only two to do so in England. So if he goes on to say there’s something which the players need to change in their approach, there must be something there to learn.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Are the other players listening or is Wenger heeding the need to become more like Mourinho in this regard ?

[spacer height=”30px”]

Only the next game agaisnt Bournemouth will tell.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Till then COYG !!!!
