It’s imperative that Arsenal pull out all the stops to secure the signature of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the next three years.
Arteta will have to look at two or three transfer windows to fix everything that’s broken at the Emirates and in the meantime, he needs a proven goal scorer.
At one stage, I saw the sense in cashing in on the 31-year-old hotshot, but I have since concluded that Alexandre Lacazette is the most sensible alternative. The club also needs to make a statement of intent, that they are not about to sell off their Jewel in the hope of securing someone who is probably only half as good or in promoting someone who isn’t ready.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang isn’t just the Arsenal captain, he is the go-to figure in a tight spot or crisis. He is the difference between a draw, a loss, and a win. Between heading in the right direction and towards the top four or almost certain relegation, because as a recent Mail article noted:
‘Take away Aubameyang’s goals for Arsenal and they’d be the second bottom and staring relegation in the face.
It’s explained by the fact Aubameyang is responsible for 45.6 percent of Arsenal’s 39 Premier League goals this season.
He sits on 17 league goals but the next highest is Alexandre Lacazette on six and Nicolas Pepe on four. Aubameyang could justifiably claim others need to pull their weight more.’
It’s not just the goals, it’s the spirit of the player. He reminds us of another world-class number 14 and his ability to make goals out of nothing. You can be forgiven for looking at clips of Aubameyang and Thierry Henry and thinking that they were one and the same. If it wasn’t for the Gabon striker’s penchant for unconventional haircuts, it would be difficult to tell them apart.

The pace, the appetite for goal, the predatory instinct are the same. The way that Aubameyang picks up the ball in no man’s land and surges forward putting the fear of god into a defense, takes you back to the imperious French forward’s reign in red and white.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is every inch the type of Arsenal player that fits the club’s DNA and at this moment in time, they can’t afford to lose him. Simple as that.
