Erik Ten Haag, Pochettino and More: Rating Manchester United’s Next Prospective Manager And Their Chances

Erik Ten Haag, Pochettino and More: Rating next Manchester United manager, Man Utd Manager prospective, next prospective United manager

On 21st November, 2021 Manchester United fired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, their 4th manager within 10 years of Sir Alex Ferguson leaving. Since then, they have been looking for the next Man Utd manager. Solskjaer was sacked after a string of disappointing results in the premier league including a Carabao Cup exit. Man United have brought in manager Ralf Ragnick as an interim till the end of this season. United hope to find a new manager in the summer who will help bring the glory days back to the red side of Manchester.

Since the sacking of Solskjaer, they have been linked with a number of managers to take the helm at Old Trafford. Let’s have a look at who can be the next Man Utd manager.

1. Erik Ten Haag:

Erik ten Haag, the current Ajax manager, seems to be a fan favourite among the Man United faithful. He is achieving amazing results with Ajax currently both domestically and in Europe. No doubt he is also becoming popular among the decision makers at Manchester United. Although Ten Haag seems to avoid questions regarding his future but recent reports suggest that he is the favourite to take up the managers job at the Theatre of Dreams at the beginning of next season.

Reports of Ten Haag taking English lessons emerged recently. There have also been rumours that Man United representatives have made initial contact with him asking him about his interest in becoming the next united manager.

According to me, Ten Haag is the favourite to take over at United. I would rate his chances to be 8/10 to take the Managerial role at United, given his recent achievements and records. His playing style, which is possession based attacking football, is the United way.

2. Mauricio Pochettino:

If the Manchester United job would have been available an year or two ago, then I would say Mauricio would have been 10/10 favourite to take the job. The United hierarchy wanted him to replace Jose Mourinho back in 2019, but him taking the PSG job prevented that from happening.

Man United hierarchy have always rated him highly since his spell at Southampton and then Tottenham. Besides, the United board like him. Pochettino also has a proven Premier League pedigree guiding Southampton to their highest place finish. He also guided Tottenham to top 4 finishes and a Champions League final.

In the current scenario, if Mauricio Pochettino himself leaves the PSG job then I would say he will has a chance at becoming a manager. But unless he leaves or is sacked, I think the chances of him becoming the manager of Man United is 7 on a scale of 10.

3. Luis Enrique:

The ex Barcelona manager helped the Catalans win a treble in 2015. He is now the Spanish national team’s manager. He has been rumoured to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s preferred pick to take over as Man United’s manager. However, Luis Enrique has made it clear that he wont be leaving the National team duties until the 2022 FIFA World Cup at least and maybe even beyond that.

For me it is highly unlikely that Luis Enrique will become the United manager this summer. So, I would rate this move a 4/10.

4. Carlo Ancelotti:

Ancelotti is one of the most successful managers in Europe. He has the record of winning a cup with almost every club that he has managed. The rumors of Ancelotti joining United started to surface probably just a week ago. However, this move seems to be the most unlikely. If you were to ask me, I think there is a 3/10 chance for Carlo to manage Manchester United.

So, these are a few managers who have been linked with Manchester United recently. Out of them the top 2 contenders for the job are certainly Erik Ten Haag and Mauricio Pochettino. Only time will tell who will become the next Man Utd manager. Who will be the next in line to try and bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
