The Red Devils Require These Three Players To Give Their Best If United Want To Finish In Top Four

Red Devils, Lukaku, Matic, Bailly

After gaining a hard fought victory against Juventus, the Red Devils lost the Manchester derby game at the Etihad Stadium last weekend 3-1. One of the prime reasons for the fans being agitated on the loss in the Manchester City Vs Manchester United game is not just the style of play implemented by Jose Mourinho but also the individual performances of the players out there on the pitch.

Even though, conceding a defeat to city rivals is humiliating, our approach to the Manchester City Vs Manchester United game was really disappointing. While players like Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial in the squad are doing their best to take the team ahead, few significant members are really having a bad time on the field this season.

Romelu Lukaku :

The Belgian giant is not having a great time this season. The striker doesn’t get the ball around much, his touches has been poor and has been wasting plenty of opportunities before actually scoring a goal.

But, Romelu Lulaku is definitely not a bad player, especially after giving a glance at his previous stats. While at Everton, the 25-year-old was an unstoppable goal scoring machine. Even during his first season at Old Trafford, Lukaku put up a decent tally of more than 20 goal for the Red Devils in all competitions.

However, since the start of the 2018-19 season, Lukaku’s performance has been underwhelming. The Belgian international has scored 4 goals in the 11 appearances that he’s made so far in the Premier League. No doubt, he’s a great player, he could easily win balls in air, push through players with his strength and speed and is selfless.

Romelu Lukaku isn’t just about scoring goals but much more than that. Although, he is having a rough patch right now, he certainly needs to improve the way he moves the ball around in the attacking third as his control and dribbling is not up to the mark. I think Lukaku could surely get better over time. He can deliver the Red Devils something which no other striker in the PL could ever do.

Eric Bailly :

Yet another player possessing the capabilities of a world-class defender but not giving out a good show in the current season. Eric Bailly was often referred to as the best center-back in the current defending department for the Red Devils by the supporters.

But his time at United is certainly under turmoil ever since the 2018-19 season started. I wouldn’t say Bailly being completely faultless as his performances has not been up to the standard, but that doesn’t mean that the Ivory Coast defender should be discarded altogether.

Rumors have been rife of a possible move for Bailly out of Manchester United. It may not be a good call by Jose as we can’t deny the fact that Bailly is really a good defender. His performances last season made him the best defender in the United squad and selling him off to another team would certainly prove detrimental for United.

Nemanja Matic:

Nemanja Matic is one of the most technically correct and experienced defensive midfielders currently in the Premier League but his performances for the Red Devils so far this season makes him look like a player who is having his first season in the league.

We are familiar with the Serbian retrieving the ball from the opposition and stopping the attack every time, but lately Matic is having a hard time being the defensive wall he usually is. You could say that he is aging and a fall in his performance is ought to happen, but the fall is drastic and unacceptable.

Matic has been unable to link the ball from the defense to the attack as we are used to seeing. His man-marking is poor and the United supporters are preferring younger players like Andreas Pereira for the holding role than him. The 30-year-old needs to buckle up and start giving out better performances now as we need him more than ever.

For United to break into the top four of the Premier League table, these three players definitely need to give their best for the Red Devils and again regain the form that will bolster United towards victory.
