19-Year-Old Bundesliga Star Deserves To Cement His Place In The Arsenal First Team Ahead Of Carrasco/Fraser

Reiss Nelson

Reiss Nelson looks likely to get his chance as Arsenal fail to buy and sell their way out of trouble in the transfer window.

Arsenal have a well documented cash crisis despite being an influential club in the Premier League for most of the 90’s and early 2000’s. They have declined rather steeply in the last ten years to such a degree that they have been reduced to a calamitous loan deal involving Denis Suarez and there is a suggestion that they recently offered a lengthy installment plan for Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini.

That’s embarrassing even by Arsenal’s standards.

The problems facing the Gunners are complex, they have an extremely limited budget of £45m, if indeed that figure is correct. They seem unable to offload under performing players such as Mustafi and Ozil and despite assurances from Unai Emery and Raúl Sanllehi, that Arsenal are still an attractive club to play for, it appears that their targets are actively seeking alternative options.

The on/off Carrasco deal was always unlikely because of a £27m price tag and the ongoing transfer brick wall, is a situation that’s unlikely to improve in a hurry. So, it’s likely that this situation could provide a select few with an opportunity to fast track themselves from Academy status to the first team.

Of those on the cusp of premiership involvement, Reiss Nelson is surely the front runner and the one player fans would like to see given a chance to showcase his obvious talent.

Intelligent, lightening quick, with great poise and balance, winger Reiss Nelson, could add a cutting edge that was sadly lacking for the majority of the season. One that saw Lacazette and Aubameyang starved of service, leaving them to fashion their own chances and opportunities.

Despite the reservations coming from some corners of the Arsenal faithful, I really don’t see that Emery has a choice. At this rate, Arsenal will only be able to add two players, possibly three, to a faltering and failing squad, which is less than they need.

All the talk about Antony, Perisic, Karamoh and Pepe is as premature as it is unlikely due to the cost. Out of all those options, only Karamoh would be the most affordable, but why bother when Reiss Nelson has acquitted himself well at Hoffenheim and is clearly focused on playing for the club he loves.

There was something of a clamour for the youngster’s return last season, but contractual obligations made it impossible.

Reiss Nelson said recently:

“I just want to go back there stronger because at the time I was at Arsenal I was 16, 17 and I didn’t feel confident.”

“I didn’t think I was a man, but now I’m feeling stronger and I think a couple more months or even a year in Hoffenheim will make me strong and give me the belief and confidence to go back to Arsenal and do very good there.”

“I want to be an Arsenal legend.”

The stumbling block appears to be the coach, who has shown a reluctance to include the winger in his plans.
During Nelsons’ loan spell, the Spaniard said:

“With Reiss, we are very happy with him at the moment.”

“We follow him every match. We are thinking how he can help us in the future.”

Either Emery believes in Nelson’s abilities or he doesn’t. He has a player desperate to play for the club, who will bring huge ambition and desire and in a climate where Arsenal can’t seem to attract 80% of it’s targets, wouldn’t it be nice to see a success story from inside the club.
