The highly rated Reiss Nelson is hopeful that he he will sign a new contract with the club after making his full English Premier League Debut in the 3-2 win over Southampton last week. In what has been an extremely underwhelming season so far for the club, academy graduate Reiss Nelson has been one of the few silver linings in our run in the Europa League. Making 15 appearances in all competitions along with training with the first team before every game, Reiss Nelson along with fellow academy graduates Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock have been nothing short of a revelation this season with their performances for the club in the Europa League.[spacer height=”30px”]

Reiss Nelson who was an constant presence in the Arsenal first team during the Europa League group stages in a wingback role was handed his full debut in the league as a winger during the win over Southampton. While it seems to have been a huge experience playing in his debut game, even more so pleasing was the fact that he was selected as the replacement to the absent Henrikh Mikhitaryan. [spacer height=”30px”]

Despite not being able to produce anything spectacular on the night and seeming quite perplexed at time with the ball, Reiss Nelson did put in a steady performance while showing signs of flashiness and slick one touch passing.[spacer height=”30px”]

With Wenger displaying so much faith in an 18 year old, its seems the boss’s keen belief in his abilities and his loyalty to the player has not gone unnoticed to the player. Speaking in an interview to Evening Standard, Arsenal prodigy and widely coveted 18 year old academy graduate has revealed his interest in signing up with the Gunners as soon as possible and the reason behind committing his future to the club. [spacer height=”30px”]

It is a big achievement to sign for a big club like Arsenal so I’m just delighted with the contract and hopeful that I can sign it soon,” he said. [spacer height=”20px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “I did set one target – to make my first-team debut. I have done that, I have had 15 appearances.[spacer height=”20px”] “A Premier League start was on the cards but I think I need to score, that is the only one I haven’t achieved so fingers crossed I can get a cheeky goal before the end of the season.[spacer height=”20px”] “I think a first-team start in the Premier League at a high level like this is always a step forward. I’ve just got to thank the boss and all my team-mates around me, pushing me and making me work harder and harder.”[spacer height=”30px”] [/perfectpullquote]

Speaking on the boss’s influence behind his rise and his decision to commit, here is what Reiss Nelson had to say : [spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “He is one of the biggest (influences) for me, he keeps pushing the youngsters – me, Eddie (Nketiah) and Joe (Willock) – I think he has got a bright future planned for us,”[spacer height=”20px”] “We just have to keep training well and I think – with a boss like that – he is always going to push us and will give us first-team football when the opportunities arise.” [/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]
Along with fellow academy graduates, Maitland-Niles and Joe willock, Reiss Nelson has constantly acted on the promise shown by him during their time playing for the under 23s by making the most of the opportunities showered on them.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]
An ever-present in the under 23 team, Reiss Nelson’s skills and abilities are presently appreciated and coveted globally by some of the biggest teams in the World like Real Madrid and AS Monaco which is why the need for his commitment to the club was paramount.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]
Reiss Nelson is a spectacular talent and a superstar in the making, also quite possibly being the biggest and brightest talent to have ever come out of the clubs academy yet, so for the club to be struggling so badly in the league and yet managing to keep hold of their best talents is quite an achievement.[spacer height=”30px”]

While being incredibly talented with the ball at his feet, Reiss Nelson’s biggest strength on the field is his ability to dribble past one on one opponents on the field along with an immaculate ability to strike the occasionally mindblowing free-kick.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]
His panache for scoring from set pieces was evident when he seemed visibly interested in taking over from Granit Xhaka. Hopefully now there will be more of these for Reiss Nelson to take over and display his brilliance for the world to see and for us to adore.[spacer height=”30px”]

In terms of contract situations and all the dilly dallies which are presently happening in the club with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey, this bit of achievement should be greatly cherished by the club and all those who support the men in red and white everyday.
