Riyad Mahrez

According to the reports from French TV station SFR Sport, Jose Mourinho is keen to sign Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez.

Riyad Mahrez played one of the most crucial parts for Leicester City in 2015-2016 to help them win the Premier League.

In August 2016, Mahrez signed a new four year contract with the Foxes. He was also nominated for the Ballon d’Or in October 2016 finishing seventh.

At the end of the 2016-2017 season, Riyad Mahrez announced his decision to leave the club.

According to the reports, the Portugese manager is keen to sign the Algerian winger.

Mourinho was certain to sign four players in the summer transfer window. And Mahrez would certainly fit into the plans of Mourinho. He said,

“Everyone knows I would like a fourth player and I cannot hide that because I had that in my mind. But I am happy if I am not going to have that and I don’t think I am going to have that. I was the first to tell my board not to feel any kind of pressure from me in that respect. Probably next summer, I will have to try and get a player from a position I think can make us stronger.”

The Portugese manager would like to plot a deal of around £50m to bring the Algerian winger according to the Independent.

SFR Sport reported Mourinho is very keen to get his signature to complete his Premier League winning squad.

[spacer height=”30px”]

But United board officials are reluctant to spend so much on him according to the Independent. As per the board officials, Riyad Mahrez is not worth £50m.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Considering that scenario, it seems Mahrez is nothing more than a last-minute solution Mourinho is looking to add some depth to the attacking line.

Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Mata and Mkhitaryan all have started the season in excellent form. So, it may not be vastly needed. But if Mahrez joins United before the transfer deadline, it won’t be cheap as Leicester won’t be parting ways with one of their best players.
