Is Rodrigo De Paul Another Target to Fill The Arsenal Midfield Position in The Summer

Rodrigo De Paul

Rodrigo De Paul is a name that a great many may not be familiar with but he’s a player that is on the radar of many Premier League clubs including Leeds and Liverpool according to leeds united fc latest news. Marcelo Bielsa has a fine eye for talent and Leeds United were sounding out a move for the Argentinian in January but like many clubs, the pandemic left holes in their accounts.

Rodrigo De Paul (26) is currently the heartbeat and pulse in a Udinese side where he is establishing himself as a rising star. The first thing you’ll notice about him is his ease with the ball, he’s quite comfortable even when he has a sea of shirts around him. He’ll wriggle free from the opposition’s attention by dragging the ball left or right or by pulling the ball backward in a defensive manoeuvre, only to then pass the ball out or start a move with an incisive pass.

He’s a hands-on midfield force and baller who can play central or out on the left or right, but his versatility extends to being an attacking midfielder, which would be of immense interest to Mikel Arteta. De Paul also has a great touch and technical ability and should Edu manage to convince his current club to part with him, it could add a new depth to the Arsenal spine.

The Argentinian also loves to dribble and take on defenders and he doesn’t care about the numbers. His make-up is all about attack, whether it’s taking a shot, providing a precise pass, working his way into the box, or becoming the link to goal. He’s dynamic, direct, and exciting and although Odegaard would be the preferred choice, De Paul would be a fine acquisition.

The current valuation is around the £34m – £40m mark but you get a lot of quality for the money and although it may take him time to adjust to the premier league, the midfielder has all the attributes to become a success.

De Paul’s Form Analysis (Supplied by footystats.org):

Rodrigo De Paul is a Midfielder who has appeared in 27 matches this season in Serie A, playing a total of 2415 minutes. Rodrigo De Paul gets an average of 0.19 assists for every 90 minutes that the player is on the pitch. See how they rank against other Serie A Players.

Rodrigo De Paul scored a total of 6 goals so far this season in the league, which places them at 1st in the Udinese squad’s Top Scorers list.

According to one-versus-one.com, De Paul is rated higher than Martin Odegaard which is rather unexpected. On their 1vs1 index, De Paul is rated 73 whilst Odegaard isn’t far behind at 62, but I’m not a big one for stats as people know, give me goals and make me jump out of my seat or marvel at a touch. I’m fairly basic in that respect.

Plus, one has to bear in mind that Odegaard hasn’t had much game time which certainly skews the figures. As alternatives go, Rodrigo De Paul isn’t a bad one to consider for the summer. We will certainly be looking forward to Edu’s next move with interest.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
