Solakjaer Calls Upon United Outcast To Solve Selection Dilemma Ahead Of Trophy Deciding Match

Rojo

Marcos Rojo is set to make a rare start for Manchester United in their clash against West Ham next weekend, according to reports.

Rojo has had a very underwhelming season for United so far. As loved as he is by the fans for his passion, he just hasn’t been the same for quite some time now. He was one of the most influential players at the club during Jose Mourinho’s first season but since that gruesome injury at the end of that season, he has struggled immensely.

Niggling injuries have constantly hindered his progress. It has limited him to just four appearances this season and only one since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived in December. However, now that he is finally fit, he could be thrust straight into the action in United’s next Premier League game.

Solskjaer’s men face a blockbuster showdown with Barcelona in the Champions League next week. The following Saturday though, they welcome West Ham to Old Trafford. They will be forced to play that game without the likes of Luke Shaw and Ashley Young, who are both suspended. Shaw picked up his 10th yellow card of the season in the 2-1 shock defeat to Wolves, while Young picked up two yellow cards and got sent off.

It has forced Solskjaer into a selection headache in a critical point of the club’s season. Another slip could prove fatal in their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Antonio Valencia remains out injured and is out for an unspecified period of time. Matteo Darmian’s fitness over the weekend will be crucial as well.

With the obvious lack of options, Solskjaer is left with no choice but to play Rojo there, according to the Daily Mail. The Argentine was made to play with the u23s in their 1-1 draw with West Brom on Friday. It was a game he desperately needed to get some minutes into those legs. However, his performance was well below par and would not have been encouraging for Solskjaer and first team coach Kieran McKenna.

The United boss has been considering playing Andreas Pereira, who also played against West Brom, at full-back. He is likely to stick to Rojo though, given the 29-year-old is a natural defender and has deputized at full-back for United in the past.
