Jadon Sancho has dropped a massive hint that the rumors linking him to a switch to Manchester United in the summer could have some truth to them after all.
United are desperate to sign a quality right winger in the summer. If reports are to be believed, the club have identified Sancho as a prime target and are prepared to go all out to get him. A bid of £100 million is reportedly in the works as they prepare to spend big in order to mount a title charge next season.
Of course, initially, it seemed to be the usual run of the mill stuff. The media have linked a number of other wingers with a summer switch to Old Trafford as well. However, the links to Sancho have been the ones garnering the most interest. The Englishman has been in marvelous form for Borussia Dortmund this season, notching 8 goals and 12 assists in just 26 games. His form has earned him the interest of Europe’s elite clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and United.
Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand, who remains an avid supporter of the club in his retirement, was recently questioned about the rumors surrounding Sancho’s proposed move to his former club in the summer. The former defender spoke glowingly of his young compatriot, insisting he wouldn’t hesitate if the opportunity to bring the 18-year-old to United presented itself before him.
“I would take him [at Manchester United] all day,” Ferdinand told Goal when asked about their interest in Sancho.
“English, young, hungry and talented, that’s all I need to know.”
“I have known Jadon since he was a kid, knew him through friends. I have known his family since he was a kid, before he was even born.
“He has got the mentality. The mentality is a big part of it all, whether he has the physical attributes or not.
“The kid’s mentality, to leave Manchester City, who wanted him to stay, to just say ‘My ability deserves it and I think I can do it straight away, right now. I am not waiting’.
“And he has gone and done that. You have to respect that.
“So if someone asked me whether I would take Jadon Sancho, with all due respect to Borussia Dortmund, I would say yes, 100 per cent.”
While many United fans agreed with their former star’s sentiments, they probably weren’t prepared for what happened next. Sancho, seeing the quotes doing its rounds on twitter, went as far as retweeting them. Though he was quick to delete it, several eagle eyed fans caught on to it immediately and made sure to get screenshots of it as evidence.
Has Sancho accidentally confirmed that he will in fact move to United in the summer? Only time will tell.
