Santi Cazorla Faces Yet Another Surgery Over Achilles Injury

Santi Cazorla

According to sources in England, Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla is set to go under the knife for another surgery.

Santi Cazorla had initially injured his ankle while playing for his country Spain and since then has faced continued problems over his injured right ankle for almost an year. Cazorla has already undergone eight surgical procedures on his afflicted tendon and has faced yet another setback in his bid to get back to the pitch.

The Spaniard had last featured for the Gunners in a Champions League match against Ludogorets in a 6-0 win in October 2016 and has been out of action for almost a full year. The Gunners are currently 10/11 in the Premier League betting market to finish within the top four and seem to have hit some sort of a sweet patch in recent weeks with victories of Tottenham and Burnley showing that they have seemingly recovered from their disastrous start to the season after losses against Liverpool and Stoke and now are in midst of a grueling set of fixtures consisting of 13 premier league games in 6 weeks.

In times like these when games are thick and fast, its obvious how much Arsene Wenger would have loved to have the twinkle toed spaniard in his ranks in order to provide a breather to his midfield duo of Ramsey and Xhaka. Alas his planned comeback atleast in January also now seems to be too far fetched.

According to news outlet Sky Sports, Santi Cazorla will undergo another operation on his Achilles injury before his comeback.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Earlier this month, the Arsenal midfielder explained in an interview the potential risk of ending his football career after suffering an infection on his injury.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Achilles injury had exaggerated to an extent that there was a potential need to amputate his foot following an infection as explained by the doctors. During his rehabilitation Santi Cazorla had contracted gangrene and the doctors had to utilize skin from his tattooed forearm in order to graft on his infected ankle.

However, the Spaniard’s return has been delayed yet again after Cazorla confirmed on social media that he had to undergo another surgery after feeling pain in his right foot in the last few days.

The unfortunate midfield maestro will now have to wait even longer than anticipated before being able to make his long awaited comeback to first team football.

Santi Cazorla wrote on his Twitter account:

“I have had to undergo surgery because of some discomfort in the tendon that had dragged on over the last few days or so. It is delaying the date of my return to the pitch.”

[spacer height=”10px”]

“I maintain the illusion and motivation to enjoy my great passion, football.”

[spacer height=”30px”]

Such is the disastrous extent of his injury that previously Arsene Wenger had gone to describe Santi’s injury hell as the worst injury seen by him in his career :

[spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

“It is the worst injury I have known,”

[spacer height=”10px”]

“Starting with a pain in the Achilles, and it has gone from worse to worse. I must say I know how much Santi loves to play football and loves to be out there every day. I feel very sorry for what happened to him, because it is unbelievable.”

The Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 winner has been recovering in Spain throughout his injury nightmare and has not been in regular contact with Arsene Wenger.

[spacer height=”30px”]

It was hoped by the Gunner’s boss that fan favourite Santi would return in January but all those hopes have now evaporated after the recent surgery news.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Achilles injury has already robbed Arsenal of one of their most prized midfielders for the last 13 months and it seems the wait continues with no apparent end in sight.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Due to the result of his injury hell, Santi Cazorla, whose contract is set to expire in June 2018 has played only 23 Premier league since the end of 2014/15 season. Now it remains to be seen when will the midfielder return to the field after his comeback has been delayed due to his latest operation.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Alas Arsenal supporters can only continue to back Santi Cazorla for his comeback and wish the 32-year old good luck in these dark moments of his life.
