Arsenal’s Opening Bid for €50 Million Rated Italian Forward Rejected by Sassuolo

Gianluca Scamacca, Manchester United, Arsenal

According to reports in Italy, Sassuolo have rebuffed an initial offer for Gianluca Scamacca from Arsenal. The Gunners are reportedly paying close attention on the Italian forward and are keen on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal have a busy summer window as Mikel Arteta is pushing forth to add a forward to his squad ahead of the 2022/23 season. The Gunners are in desperate need of a striker who could bolster up the frontline, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette moving through the exit door.

As reported by Italian outlet Calciomercato (via Daily Cannon), Arsenal submitted an opening bid of €35m million for Gianluca Scamacca, but Sassuolo have knocked back the offer. The Italian side have set an asking price of €40m plus bonuses for the striker.

However, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali have denied reports of any concrete offer for the 23-year-old. Carnevali confirmed that several clubs have shown interest in signing the forward, but seemingly dismissed reports of any formal offer from Arsenal. The Italian chief told Sky Sports Italia (via Daily Mail):

“There have been some contacts with some clubs for Scamacca and others,”

“Our desire is to keep most players in the team, and there is nothing concrete for now.”

Meanwhile, 90min reported Arsenal are looking to make an official approach to sign Gianluca Scamacca this summer. Technical Director Edu has received glowing reviews of the Italy international from his scouts and talks with intermediaries have already taken place.

Gianluca Scamacca has been progressing very well in the last two years, but the 21/22 campaign was a breakout season for him. He is developing into a regular goalscorer in the Serie A, finishing the season with 16 goals in 36 appearances (stats via Transfermarkt).

The striker featured for the Italian national team in the recent Finalissima defeat to Argentina at Wembley. The forward has even reflected upon his future (via Mirror) and his time while playing in Italy:

“I think my priority now is to make my mark in Italy. Having said that, the transfer market is somewhat unpredictable. When the time comes to make a decision, I’ll try to make the best one.”

“Serie A is of a very high level and my priority is to continue here. Others will then evaluate and we’ll see what happens.”

Scamacca is currently one of the hottest prospects in the transfer market. Several top European clubs such as AC milan, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and PSG have also expressed interest in acquiring the Italian forward’s services.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will be trying to land Gianluca Scamacca this summer. Manager Mikel Arteta has instilled the philosophy to promote young players in his squad and the Sassuolo striker could be a key player for the Gunners as they try to qualify for the Champions league next season.

However, having missed out on the ticket to the Champions League late in the season to near neighbours Tottenham Hotspur, it is uncertain if a player like Scamacca sees himself relishing Europa League football. Nevertheless, with Sassuolo finishing 11th in the Serie A this season, he might be lured into a move to the Emirates, if any other top club fails to snatch him.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus has been a long-standing interest of Arteta and is a top priority for the North London side. Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Victor Osimhen of Napoli have all been deemed as potential targets for the Gunners.
