“His Mouth is Probably Out of Control”- United Legend Lashes Out at Mourinho

Mourinho Young Boys

It’s tough times for manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. For the first time in his managerial career, he is without a win in four consecutive home games. The Red Devils have had a poor start to the campaign with only ten points from seven matches, while they sit nine points off the top of the table at 10th position. This has resulted in more criticism to Mourinho, most recently by club legend Paul Scholes.

The Portuguese has lost the backing of much of his squad with his sustained public criticism and he was at it again after United’s latest setback at the London Stadium by bemoaning his defenders’ technical flails.

United were again held to a 0-0 draw against Valencia at home on Tuesday in Champions League fixture. It only added to the pressure on Mourinho, who was the subject of a pre-match criticism, by club legend Paul Scholes. He said,

“I am sat here actually surprised he survived after Saturday.

The performance was that bad. He’s constantly having a go at players.

He’s having a go at those above him because he’s not getting what he wants.

I think his mouth is probably out of control, and I think he’s embarrassing the club.”

Mourinho responded to Scholes’s comment in the post-match interview,

“I don’t need to know what he said. He said what he wants to say, I’m not interested, honestly, I’m not interested.

Freedom of speech, free country, you can say what you want.”

Jose would have hoped for a response from his players at home to Valencia, but while the team showed the desire, but they failed to break down the Spanish side. There weren’t many positives to take from the game, apart from the desire to fight.

Scholes’s comments cannot be claimed unjustified and after having spent £400 million in two-and-a-half years at the club, Jose claims he has a below par squad and that they finished second was over-achieving. What’s more disturbing is not only the players are struggling to work together as a team, rather have lost their individual charm and have increasingly underperformed.

United left the field to a chorus of boos last night and a draw will only add to the rumours that this could possibly mean the end of the road for Jose at United, with former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane in prime contention to take the job as his successor.

In their next match, the Red Devils will take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford, where they’ll have the task of breaking down a defensively apt team and try and grind out a result.
