Group E | Serbia Vs Brazil: What To Expect And From Whom As Both Fight To Survive And Intended Line-Ups

Serbia Vs Brazil, FIFA World Cup 2018, Russia

The group stages of the FIFA World Cup 2018 is rounding up with one more day to go as Group E teams clash for their survival and look to qualify for the knock-out stages of the tournament. The Selecao are in for the Serbia Vs Brazil clash as both look to fancy their chances for the Round of 16.

A draw from the Serbia Vs Brazil match will be enough for the South Americans to qualify for the Round of 16 while Serbia need to win to go through. Meanwhile, the other Group E fixture between Switzerland and Costa Rica will also be taking place tonight at the same time.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Although Serbia are certainly aware of the daunting task of facing the mighty Brazil in tonight’s Serbia Vs Brazil encounter, they would definitely hope for miracles to happen. Moreover, with a number of upsets already gone down in this edition of the FIFA World Cup like Germany, Colombia, Argentina, etc. another one might be in the cards.

Head-To-Head:

[spacer height=”20px”]

We have seen (Yugoslavia included) Serbia Vs Brazil four times in FIFA World Cups with a perfectly balanced head-to-head record of one win each and two draws, their first meeting being in the first ever World Cup tournament held in 1930 with the Serbians (then Yugoslavia) running out Brazil 2-1.

[spacer height=”20px”]

However, in total though, Brazil have faced Serbia in 19 occasions (including Yugoslavia) winning 10 times and ending level in 7 games.

Brazil:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Brazil head into this match after a 2-0 win over Costa Rica after drawing out their opening match 1-1 against Switzerland. Moreover, Brazil will be looking to continue their unbeaten run of 13 games coming into the Serbia Vs Brazil match.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Brazil, touted as one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2018, are slowly getting their rhythm back after a convincing performance against Costa Rica. Though, not their best performance but the second half was surely what we have been hoping to see from the South Americans.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Possessing one of the most lethal attacks among the contenders with the likes of Neymar, Coutinho, Jesus, Firmino and Douglas Costa to name a few, infiltrating any opposition defense might not much of a difficulty. They will be going into the Serbia Vs Brazil match being confident about this fact.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Although, Brazil require only one point to get through to the knock-out stages, they will be wanting to get full three points and finish top of the group.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Key Players:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Phillipe Coutinho (Barcelona)

[spacer height=”20px”]

Despite the hype being on Neymar, this Barcelona forward is the actual person delivering for the Selecao at the FIFA World Cup 2018. Be it the match against Switzerland or Costa Rica, this young winger has been the key man for Brazil scoring the essential goals. His goal against Switzerland was an absolute scorcher saving Brazil from a defeat while the goal against Costa Rica was the real ice-breaker winning the Man of the Match award on both occasions.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Capable of playing in various positions on the field be it as the main left-winger, secondary winger alongside midfield or as an attacking midfielder, Coutinho needs to go on like this if Brazil want to do well in this World Cup and tonight’s Serbia Vs Brazil clash will be another big step for Coutinho and Brazil.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Thiago Silva (Paris Saint Germain)

[spacer height=”20px”]

The PSG defender is the prime piece of the Brazilian defense entrusted with the responsibility to maintain discipline of the back-line. Thiago Silva is one of main reasons why Brazil have conceded only three goals in their last 13 games including the one against Switzerland.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

For Brazil to remain as one of the favourites to win the tournament, they need their best defender and captain to be rock solid in defense. With 4.3 interceptions and 1.2 tackles per game for PSG this season, Tite would want him to repeat the same for Brazil.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Predicted Line-Up:

[spacer height=”20px”]

With the team performing much better in the last match against Costa Rica, Tite is likely to go into the Serbia Vs Brazil match with an unchanged team except for Douglas Costa in for the ineffective Willian.

Predicted Lineup For Brazil

[spacer height=”20px”]

Serbia:

[spacer height=”20px”]

After losing out to Switzerland by a 2-1 scoreline, tonight’s Serbia Vs Brazil match is their only chance to qualify for the knockout stages. They currently stand on 3 points winning their opening match against Costa Rica 1-0.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

For the Orlovi to remain in the tournament, tonight’s Serbia Vs Brazil is a must win match. However, Serbia knows it very well about the formidable task of beating Brazil, one of the most balanced and deadly teams of the FIFA World Cup.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Key Players:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Nemanja Matic (Manchester United)

[spacer height=”20px”]

The Manchester United midfielder, one of the most important players for Serbia, has been the main shield for the Serbian defense. He covers up the whole of midfield providing key passes for the forward line as well as provides a barrier for the defense.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Usually playing as a defensive midfielder, his prime task in the Serbia Vs Brazil match will be to cover up for the Serbian defense against the dangerous attack of Brazil. With the likes of Neymar, Coutinho, Jesus present in the Brazil lineup, the 29 year-old defensive midfielder will have to be at his best to keep them out and knock-out stage hopes alive.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio)

[spacer height=”20px”]

The young attacking midfielder from Lazio is Serbia’s key player and will be relying on him to do the play-making part for the Orlovi. Savic will have a tough time getting through the Brazilian defense with Silva and Miranda present but head coach Mladen Krstajic will be hoping that the 23 year-old produces a repetition of his brilliant performances at Lazio tonight.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Predicted Line-Up:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Mladen Krstajic will not be looking to change his starting XI after good performances against Costa Rica and Switzerland.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Prediction:

[spacer height=”20px”]

This should be a walk in the park for Brazil looking at the teams, but nothing can be said after unexpected events happening in this FIFA World Cup.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Still the Serbia Vs Brazil encounter should end in 2-0 win for the Selecao pretty comfortably.

  1. Brazil vs Serbia
This World Cup Group G will get underway at 7pm on Thursday, November 24.
The match will take place at Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail.
    Brazil vs Serbia Prediction
    Brazil 4-1 Serbia
Brazil will be on a mission this World Cup after coming up short in the past four tournaments. This year’s team features far too much talent for it not to dominate, even high-quality teams like Serbia.
For Serbia, Brazil’s relentless attack will simply be too much to contain. With the talent Brazil employs on either wing, Serbian goalkeeper, Marko Dmitrović, will surely have a long day ahead of him.
While Serbia scoring won’t be a sure thing, Mitrović finding a goal is never out of the question. Brazil’s defense is stern, but the 6’2 striker may be good for a late header in this one.
