‘Sometimes We Need A Kick Up The Backside ‘ : Shaw Opens Up About The Nasty Side of Solskjaer And Points Out Why It Is Important Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has heaped praise on interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Manchester United’s blockbuster clash against Liverpool on Sunday.

Shaw has been a regular for United this season, and has continued his rich vein of form under Solskjaer. The Englishman was rarely ever on the good side of previous manager Jose Mourinho. But, things have drastically changed under his replacement.

The club were struggling under Mourinho after a woeful start to the season. Since Solskjaer arrived though, they went on a 10-game unbeaten run and have a stunning record of 11 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat from their last 13 games. When asked about Solskjaer, Luke Shaw said:

”It’s just amazing to look at the job Ole has done since he came in,”

How much he has turned it around and how much the place is in a positive way now.

Since his arrival, everyone has been talking about how much positivity, Solskjaer has brought back to the club. The players and even the tea ladies are happy coming in and going out of work – a stark contrast to the dark, dreary Mourinho era.

However, Shaw revealed that Ole does have another side to him. A more stern side, reminding the players of the standards they must uphold while they play for arguably the biggest club in the world.

”You know, Ole does it at the right time [shows another side to him]. He knows how good we can be and, if we’re not up to his standards or the standards of Manchester United, he will certainly let you know.”

”We’ve had a few moments like that where we might have been comfortable in a game but got a bit sloppy. He’s the manager and he tells the players what he wants. It’s good and what we need sometimes, a kick up the backside from the manager, if we’re getting too comfortable.”

”It keeps everyone on their toes but he’s an amazing guy and a brilliant manager.”

Up next for Shaw’s side is Liverpool at Old Trafford. United’s arch rivals are enjoying a brilliant season themselves, and are joint top of the Premier League with a game in hand over Manchester City.

United vs Liverpool is always one of the biggest clashes in the league. This time round though, the game has a lot more significance behind it.

The majority of United’s fan base are desperate for Liverpool to lose out on the title race, even though the other team in question is Manchester City. Should Solskjaer’s side win at home, it would halt the Anfield side in their tracks. It would also help the Red Devils hold on to 4th spot, ahead of Arsenal.

Having been at United for around 5 years now, Shaw is well aware of how big this game is. Speaking to MUTV, he spoke about how everyone in the squad is itching to play on Sunday.

This is the biggest and best game to be involved in,” Shaw added. “Of course, we know how well they’ve been doing and how big the rivalry is between the two clubs.

”It’s one that everyone wants to be involved in. It’s always close to your thinking because of how big it is. It’s a really exciting thing to think about.”
