OFFICIAL | Manchester United Finally Confirm Who Their Next Official Permanent Manager Will Be And Why

Solskjaer, Arsedevils

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as Manchester United’s manager on a full-time basis on a three-year contract, the club have confirmed.

Solskjaer was appointed as United’s interim manager back in December following the sacking of Jose Mourinho after a shocking start to the season. His arrival has completely transformed the mood around the club, which has in turn transformed the results on the pitch. He has reinvigorated the players and brought the best out of a few of them, such as Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba.

At the time of Mourinho’s departure, United were sat 6th, 11 points off fourth place. Since Solskjaer’s arrival, they’ve just lost three games in all competitions, with 14 wins in 19 games. They have also dragged themselves back up in the Premier League. They now sit only two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and look set to put up a real fight to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Speaking of the Champions League, Ole also led United to a remarkable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the competition. In doing so, his side became the first team in Champions League history to win a tie after losing the first leg 2-0.

United announced that Solskjaer would be taking over on a permanent basis in an official statement on their website which read:

“Manchester United announces that current caretaker manager and former striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has been appointed as the club’s full-time manager on a three-year contract.”

Speaking to the club’s official website after the announcement was made, Solskjaer admitted he is ‘beyond excited’ to lead United permanently going forward.

“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club,”said Solskjær.

“It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far. This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve.”

Ed Woodward, Executive Vice Chairman, comments:

“Since coming in as caretaker manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves.

“More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club. This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward.

“I want to thank Ole and the coaching team for everything they have done so far and congratulate him on this richly deserved appointment. The fans and everyone at the club are behind him as he looks to take us where we need to be and build the next stage of our history.”

The appointment finally puts to bed months of speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino to the job. Solskjaer had constantly tried to put aside talk about his future until the summer. Now that he has been appointed full-time, he will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders to hopefully become the first real successful manager since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.
