Solskjaer Informs United Management to Sign These Two Frenchmen as Potential Defensive Replacements

Samuel Umtiti, Umtiti linked to Arsenal and United

If reports are to be believed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have asked the management to sign Samuel Umtiti and Layvin Kurzawa as reinforcements for the United defense in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have been riding high under their Caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer barring the recent pit-stops following a flurry of injuries to as many as 10 first team players.

Such kind of situations tests the bench strength of a club and United portrayed so with the crucial Champions League win over PSG and the League draw against Liverpool. But, United have failed to maintain consistency in their performances with their second string side.

This situation has made it inevitable for Solskjaer to look at strengthening the pool of players which could keep the first team players on their toes. According to reports, the management at Old Trafford is in favour of roping in potential replacements for his defense.

One of them is reported to be Samuel Umtiti. The 25-year old French International is favoured by Manchester United a lot. He won the FIFA World Cup with France in 2018 and since then, a string of injuries have made this season a horror for him.

He has only started in 8 games for Barcelona and only a single appearance between September and February this season. According to a report by Calciomercato, Samuel Umtiti can leave the Catalan club this summer. If United sign Umtiti, the inexperienced central defence could receive a massive boost.

However, Samuel Umtiti renewed his contract in June 2018 with the Spanish giants and it will only expire in 2023.

Another speculation is regarding the inclusion of a backup for Luke Shaw. The English International has under gone a great deal of workload this season, but has succeeded to deliver pretty well.

The left-back has proved to be a playmaker in many of the games and Solskjaer would be restless to get an equally effective replacement in his grasp. Paris Saint-Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa seems to provide the answer to this question.

The 26-year old French International has started in 5 games this season and has less than 18 months remaining on his contract with the French club. However, United might have to pip out their League rivals Tottenham, who are also in the hunt for the French left-back.

Solskjaer is reported to receive around £200 million to spend in the summer transfer window.

Solskjaer is most likely to be confirmed as the permanent manager this summer for the Red Devils. He is reported to have asked for 4 signings in the upcoming transfer window- a right back, a left back, a midfielder and a winger.

These signings would probably be carried out in a view of strengthening the reserves with Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia set to leave the club in summer. The signings of Samuel Umtiti and Layvin Kurzawa could be season-making deals for United, if they actually come true.
