Woodward Under Pressure From Solskjaer To Sign Bruno Fernandes Ahead Of PL Rivals

Manchester United, Ed Woodward, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, transfer window

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put Manchester United’s CEO Edward Woodward under immense pressure to complete the signing of Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Bruno has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford since the beginning of the transfer window. However, despite a dialogue taking place between Sporting Lisbon and United, there has been little to update about in terms of a deal being struck and a transfer moving forward. Following an incredible season on a personal level, the Portuguese international has gained the interest of a number of Europe’s elite clubs. As a result, he has a tough choice to make as to which move would be the best for him at this stage of his career.

United do not find themselves at an advantage in comparison to their competitors, having failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Still, Solskjaer is determined to restore the club to its former glories. He sees signing Bruno as a vital step towards accomplishing that goal, considering how poor his side were in the creative department last season. Hence, he is determined to snap him up at all costs and is insistent on Woodward securing a deal for the midfielder.

According to reports, the 24-year-old is also being targeted by Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking to replace Christian Eriksen. The Dane revealed that he might be keen on a new challenge elsewhere  following six trophyless years at Spurs. The North London club are prepared to challenge United for Bruno’s signature, but reports suggest the tables aren’t turned in their favor.

Lisbon-based Portuguese news outlet A Bola have tipped United as the more attractive option for Bruno. The Sporting star would slot straight into United’s starting XI and would be one of the first names on the team sheet given the lack of competition he would face from his team-mates. United have also let Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini leave, meaning a midfield recruitment was a must this summer anyway. Tottenham are also aiming for Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele, so they are less likely to go all in for Bruno.

The attacking midfielder still hasn’t decided where he will be playing next season. He recently opened up on his future by saying: “I know nothing, I will take the next few days to understand what is true.

“We know that newspapers sometimes have to make a show to move the market and sell.

“I’m calm, I’m at a big club. I don’t need to move, I’m not trying to leave.

“If the opportunity comes to go to a team that you can’t refuse, I’ll talk to Sporting.”

Daniel James remains United’s only signing of the summer so far. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to follow suit in the upcoming days, and Solskjaer will be desperate to add Bruno to his list of signings once that deal is completed.
