It seems the Belgian and Manchester United talisman Romelu Lukaku could be on his way out from United? Meanwhile, Mauro Icardi is in loggerheads with his club at the moment due to a lot of developments in the past week including being stripped of captaincy and having been dropped from the squad in recent games.
A huge swap deal is reportedly in the works between United and Inter Milan for the coming summer and Lukaku might just be a part in this swap.
Lukaku has had a tough time this season at the club, scoring only 9 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions. Also, he has been used sparingly and only as a substitute with the interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Marcus Rashford over him. While he has been used sparingly, his performances have not done justice to the reportedly undisclosed fee of £75 million spent on him to lure him away from Everton in the past season.
Icardi joined Inter Milan in 2013 from Sampdoria for a €6.5 million with 50% registration rights. Next season, Inter paid the other half to obtain full rights. Since then, Icardi has been absolutely fabulous for Inter, scoring 122 goals in 210 appearances for the club, becoming captain from the 2015-16 season till recent times.
But, this season has been rough for Icardi with talks over a contract renewal between the club and him breaking down due to his astronomical wage demands. Also, he has been publicly stripped off the captaincy which the club revealed via it’s twitter handle. He was left out of the squad for the Europa League matchup against Rapid Wien on Thursday night with his replacement scoring the winner on the night.

United have long been linked with a move for the Argentine forward, with it’s earlier bid of a €30 million being rejected, as reported by several newspapers back in 2016. But now, with Lukaku being out of favor and Inter Milan showing positive interest in the striker, the swap deal could really see the light of the day as Inter have a €115 million release clause that he signed with the club to keep him committed here, till 2021.
According to the report, Inter Milan have four possible options out of which Lukaku is the most likely guy to pursue. Edin Dzeko, Duvan Zapata and Timo Werner have all been earmarked as potential targets for the club if Inter do decide to do away with their former club captain Mauro Icardi.
Latest On Manchester United:
With both players being close to each other in terms of their potential valuation, a swap deal could very much make sense for all parties involved, if Inter do decide to part ways with Mauro Icardi, who has long been deemed as a Manchester United transfer target but have never seen a move materialise, due to Inter’s unwillingness to loose their priced possession, which could all very well change, come finally this summer.
