How good is Thomas Tuchel and Why he is the Perfect fit For Arsenal FC

Tuchel to Arsenal, Wenger replacement, Arsenal new manager, Arsedevils, Thomas Tuchel, Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel, the ex-Dortmund Manager has been the closest anyone has ever got to in replacing Arsene Wenger. Or that is what reports from Germany suggest. After dismal performance in the league and being knocked out of the FA Cup Wenger has been under much pressure of lately. With 13 points behind the CL spot it looks like we will be going through a second consecutive Year without Champions League. Though the Europa League looks ambitious it happens to be our only ticket to the Champions League.

Whats the News?

It all started when Tuchel turned down the offer to coach Bayern Munich with reports suggesting that he is seeking challenges outside Germany.

Former Germany player Lothar Matthaus was at hand to add further fuel to the fire by saying :

“’I think he could be the favourite for Bayern, but I also know that he’s in contact with Arsenal nobody knows what happens behind the doors.” in a recent interview.

With Teams like Chelsea , PSG among other teams seeking replacement in managerial roles . The Tussle for Tuchel is on .But it’s more likely that he will end up with Arsenal according to reports from Germany.

Thomas Tuchel

Every football fan remembers Tuchel for his achievements at Dortmund. The attacking style of football he imposed was much spoken about as the German outfit were extremely dynamic in offense scoring goals at will. He also had an eye for spotting talents, having signed players like Ousmane Dembele, Marc Barta and promoting players like Pulisic to the first team during his time at Dortmund. The then Dortmund striker scored as many as 56 league goals in 63 appearences under Tuchel.

He also won the DFB Pokal cup in 2017 which remained his only title with Dortmund and more importantly was known and appreciated for his tactical switches and fluidity in formation during his time at Dortmund.

Tuchel at Mainz 05

Tuchel had a glorious 5 year stint with Mainz 05 before switching to Dortmund. He signed for German club in 2009. It was the clubs first season in Bundesliga after being relegated to 2 Bundesliga in 2006. With limted capital to spend he relied heavily on his strategy and the likes of young talents and managed an appreciable 9 th place finish in his first season .

He then went on to enjoy a streak of seven straight victories in the next season which included a away win against Bayern. He was very extremely experimental in his approach and recruitment and despite losing his marquee players to rivals he managed to sign able replacements while bringing up emerging talents into the first team. He was also responsible for the promotion of academy players like Karius into the First Team.  Adam Szalai, Andre Schurrle, Okazaki , Fuchs, Choupa Mating are among the players who were identified and developed by Tuchel.

Would Tuchel be the man for Arsenal

There is never any doubt in his ability to manage a side judging by what he has done in the past. But it would really be difficult to see someone else in the role that Wenger has perfected over the years.

The German tactician brings in a different strategy of playing that arsenal fans and players had been longing for the years. Tuchel is someone who has a keen eye on the opposition and their strategies and plays the tune according to them. Infact he has perfected so many formations all according to how his opposition hates to play against, during his years of success. He has played the 4–1-4-1,  4–1-3-2,  3–3-2-2 all while exploiting the weakness of his oppositions. He surprisingly deployed the young Julian Weigel with precision in the central midfield creating space out-wide for the pacy attacks developed from the wings.

The likes of Aubemayeng and Mhitrayan would love to be reunited wit h their boss. And with additional talents of Ozil, Lacazette and many more at his exploits. It would be a treat to watch arsenal under Tuchel given they they are both kind of best suited for each other.

Tuchel mastered Counter pressing and Positional Play during his German days at Mainz and Dortmund. Infact he attributes his style of pressing to Guardiola rather than Klopp. Guardiola being impressed during his constant duels with his Dortmund counterpart even suggested Tuchel to be his successor at Bayern.

Tuchel vs Mislintat saga

Tuchel and Arsenal’s Head of Recruitment, Sven Mislintat, both worked together at Dortmund and their relationship completely deteriorated by the time Tuchel parted ways with the club due to Tuchel pulling the plug on the club signing Oliver Torres someone who had been highly touted by Mislintat as Gundogan’s perfect successor.

Tuchel also imposed a training ground ban on Mislintat, who he said was meddling unnecessarily with his players’ daily affairs.

However, it is thought that they would be willing to put aside any previous differences; with some German press outlets claiming a deal has already been signed.

The ODDS of Tuchel to Arsenal

As Huge as 95% of the bets have gone in favor of Tuchel replacing Wenger according to Birmingham Live .There might as well be tussle between Chelsea and PSG for the Germans signature.
