Three Players Erik Ten Hag Should Sell Immediately After Becoming Manchester United Manager

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United

Erik ten Hag is amongst the frontrunners to take over at Manchester United as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Ralf Rangnick will be making a move upstairs in an advisory role after his interim job ends. The Dutch manager will get some help from Rangnick in getting to know the players a little better and faster. United have already targeted quite a number of players to sign in the summer. However, there are a few players Ten Hag needs to get rid of if he becomes the manager.

It is very important for a club like Manchester United to only have players in the squad that are actually useful. United have a lot of deadwood in the squad who barely play but receive full wages. That is not a healthy practice and they should have taken action on it a few years ago. Moreover, many players are still at the club even after a poor run of form and horrendous displays.

Not only that, but United also have players with huge ego problems. Too much of that is not good for any club to develop and be the best in the business. The Red Devils need players who are willing to fight continuously and perform at their best on a consistent level.

The Dutchman will have multiple players who are just the opposite of that. If Erik ten Hag continues with them, then there is a possibility of even him struggling to survive at Old Trafford.

Who Are The Three Players Erik Ten Hag Should Get Rid Of At Manchester United?

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba has been at the club for six years and has only enjoyed one or two good seasons at the club. He is constantly the centre of controversy with rumours linking him with a move away from United. Moreover, United also have to deal with his agent Mino Raiola’s comments from time to time.

The French midfielder is one of the highest-paid players at United but still struggles to be in the starting line-up on a regular basis. Pogba also lacks the pace and work rate now, which was one of his strong attributes before joining the club.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire made some mistakes in his first season which cost United a lot of results. That was excused considering it was his first season at a big club. However, that has not stopped yet and the Englishman is still costing United a lot of results by committing individual errors.

He does not have the pace to catch up to the forwards and often loses the physical duels. Maguire has recently struggled in positional play too, costing United their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. There is no stopping the sloppiness of Maguire and United should cash in on the defender before it gets too late.

Anthony Martial

Martial had started to suffer after his best season at the club. He found it difficult to score goals even in one-on-one situations in the next season. He dip in form continued this season too and there was no way he was going to be at the club with zero work rate.

Eventually, he sealed a loan move to his preferred destination Sevilla. The Frenchman has scored only 1 and assisted 1 in 8 appearances with the Spanish side. He is struggling there too and will find it even harder to find a lifeline at United next season.

Who Are The Other Prime Candidates To Leave Manchester United?

Juan Mata does not have the pace at all to survive in a full game anymore. The 33-year-old came on from the bench against Atletico Madrid to chase a one-goal deficit. Although he did not make any mistakes, he was not as reliant to create or score a goal. Phil Jones could also be set on a move away from the club. He lies at the bottom of the pecking order at United with barely any game time.

Jesse Lingard is another midfielder who could leave the club at the end of this season. He wanted a move away from the club in January itself but the move didn’t take place. United had to allow him to take personal leave to let him clear his head after his move didn’t materialise on deadline day. Nemanja Matic also looks old but his few displays this season suggest that there might be something left in him.

Edinson Cavani could also be on his way out. He has saved United on multiple occasions but does not look completely happy with his time in England. Cavani had already faced some backlash from the English FA for his unintentional post on Instagram. Moreover, he also wants to be closer to his family and may well achieve that after this season.
