Manchester United Can Change Their Fortunes With These Three Linked Players

Mourinho could be eager to add these three players to his squad ahead of the new season.

Manchester United are a club with a lot of history and were known for their attacking style of play under the great Sir Alex Ferguson. However, since his retirement, the football on display has been far less pleasing to the eyes of the Old Trafford faithful. [spacer height=”30px”]

Jose Mourinho will be under severe pressure to deliver silverware this season. There haven’t been a lot of signings at Manchester United this summer, despite the fact that a majority of their rivals have gone all out to strengthen their squads and close the gap on Manchester City. Mourinho will be looking to change that and he will be looking to add these players to improve their squad depth.[spacer height=”30px”]

1. Kylian Mbappé

[spacer height=”30px”]

Kylian Mbappé came into prominence in the 2016-17 season when he helped Monaco to lift the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 17 years. Paris Saint-Germain soon came calling, and he has scored a total of 17 goals and assisted 7 times in his 32 appearances for the club so far.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]It was his performance in the recently concluded World Cup that saw his value rise massively. He created history by becoming the youngest French goalscorer in World Cup history at the tender age of 19. He also became the second teenager to score two goals in a World Cup match and to score in a final, the first to do either of them since Pelé. With 4 goals to his name, including one in the final of the tournament, he received the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player Award.[spacer height=”30px”]

He would be crucial to the way Mourinho sets his team up to play especially with the manager wanting the teenager on his team sheet. Mbappé has lethal pace and his work ethic is also remarkable. He could slot in straight away at Manchester United, with the club in desperate need of a right-winger .[spacer height=”30px”]

2. Alex Sandro

[spacer height=”30px”]

Alex Sandro has been heavily linked with United for quite a while now. Mourinho will be more than happy to see the Brazilian in his ranks as Ashley Young turned 33 last month, and the Portuguese boss hasn’t showed any faith in Luke Shaw. Antonio Valencia, United’s current first choice right-back, is also 33 years old but has no solid competition for his spot. Diogo Dalot recently joined the club from Porto, but Mourinho has already stated that he is too young to be thrown right into the thick of things.[spacer height=”30px”]

Manchester United are in need of a quality full-back, and Alex Sandro fits the bill.

[spacer height=”30px”]Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmain can slot in at left-back, but both players have been linked with moves away from the club. But if United are willing to fight on all fronts, then they would require great players in every position. With the luck they have had with injuries over the past two seasons, they would require good backups as well.[spacer height=”30px”]

3. Harry Maguire

[spacer height=”30px”]

The 25-year-old has been a beast at the heart of the Three Lions’ defense. In the recently concluded World Cup, he performed admirably and has been praised by many pundits. He averaged almost 4.5 clearances, 1.5 tackles and 1.2 interceptions. Maguire also contributed in the offense by setting up one and scoring a goal himself.[spacer height=”30px”]

Harry Maguire's stock rose dramatically following his performances at the World Cup. Manchester United are one of a host of clubs chasing his signature.

[spacer height=”30px”]José Mourinho would definitely want to get the defender on his team and would be pairing him with Eric Bailly, which will surely form a formidable partnership. Maguire is familiar to the English Premier League and hence would be a very good addition.[spacer height=”50px”]
