These Are The Actual FIVE Central Defenders That United Should Really Consider Signing This Summer

Ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, Man United have been looking like a completely different side. But after their consecutive losses in the league and FA cup, a reality check of sorts has been handed to them making it amply evident if they want to get back to their best, they need to improve their defense by adding quality defenders to their ranks.

Under Solskjaer, Man United are a great side going forward but their leaky defense has already cost them important points this season. As he has been appointed as permanent manager and will most likely hold the reins to signing off on future incomings at the club, Here are 5 defenders that he should look to sign this summer at all costs that could vastly improve the present squad.

5) Toby Alderweireld (Spurs, Age 30)

Man United have been lacking a tough centre-back who can play the physical game when required and Toby Alderweireld  seems to be the perfect guy to do this job for them. His partnership with Jan Vertonghen for past couple of seasons has been phenomenal and their solid defensive partnership is main reason for all the success that spurs have had last couple of seasons.

The only problem with the signing Toby Alderweireld is the injury he suffered last season, which he has already made him miss few games this season. But for just £25m, he is an great asset to have in the Man United defense and can surely go on to prove to be a bargain of sorts if he can replicate what he has constantly produced for Spurs over the years.

4) Milan Skriniar (Inter Milan, Age 24)

Milan Skriniar is Slovakian central defender who plays for Italian heavyweights Inter Milan. Skriniar is known for his tackling and short passing. He is also not that injury prone as he played all 38 games for Inter last season.

Moreover, his disciplinary record is also great as he got only 2 yellow cards throughout last season, which is great achievement for a central defender. At just 24, he can be looked at as long term solution for their defensive woes rather than looking for short-term fixes.

3) Joachim Anderson (Sampdoria, Age 22)

Joachim Anderson is an Danish central defender who plays for Italian club Sampdoria. He is known for great passing and his ability to play long balls from the defense. Given how Solskjaer likes to play counter attacking football his ability to play those long balls will prove very beneficial to them.

He lacks the physical game when compared to other defenders in the list, but he is more technically equipped with ball at his feet, which is well suited Solskjaer’s style of play.

2) Harry Maguire (Leicester City, 26)

It is no secret that Manchester United were interested in Harry Maguire last summer after his heroics for England. But the transfer couldn’t go through for many different reasons. But now that Ole’s at the wheel, the transfer could go through and if it does, he’ll be an great inclusion in this Man united squad who could really use defenders like him.

As he not only provides great stability and calm in the defense but he can also score important goals from corners and free kicks as he has done so often for Leicester.

1) Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli, Age 27)

Kalidou Koulibaly is one of most highly regarded defenders in the Europe. He is known for his strong presence in air and also with ball at his feet. He is very strong and athletic and also tactically well equipped to play under different styles of play. He is also an excellent reader of the game, which will be great help to his fellow defenders as he can guide them on and off the pitch.

Getting his signature this summer will truly be a step in the right direction for Man United as he’ll be worth every single penny they spend on him.
