Fabrizio Romano Explains The Transfer Delay From Manchester United Regarding £34 Million Man

Kieran Trippier, United, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal

Manchester United have hit a rock wall in the form of Atletico Madrid who are playing hardball in a possible transfer for Kieran Trippier. The Red Devils themselves are not sure of their current right-back players and this transfer saga might go down to the wire.

Manchester United have done pretty well in the transfer market till now, signing Jadon Sancho from Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid alongside Tom Heaton, who has been signed as a backup goalkeeper. With these arrivals and the kind of talents United have at their disposal, they certainly look like a team that can compete for the Premier League title.

However, the Red Devils are not done yet and would like to bring in two more players before the transfer window slams shut – a right-back and a midfielder. Solskjaer wants to sign a cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who can compete for the right-back role.

Kieran Trippier has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but so far the deal is standing stagnant, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. United want to resolve the situation with Diogo Dalot before they make a move for the Atletico Madrid full-back.

According to Romano, United are waiting to sort out the Diogo Dalot situation. AC Milan want to bring the Portuguese defender back to San Siro on another loan, but the Red Devils are holding out for a buy option in the contract. Dalot is back at the club and has indicated that he will be the secondary option to Wan-Bissaka under Solskjaer.

Meanwhile, Trippier wants a move back to the Premier League and is ready to wait till the end of the transfer window for a move to happen. The English defender is pressing for a move back to England and believes that a transfer to United could happen this summer.

United already have the likes of Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot and Axel Tuanzebe contesting for the same position and if they are to bring in Trippier from Atletico Madrid, they would need to make room for the new arrival. Also, Atletico Madrid rejected multiple bids from the Red Devils at the beginning of the transfer window.

Nevertheless, I do think United should stand firm on their stance and not give in to the demands of the LaLiga side. United shouldn’t rush into signing a 30-year-old player for £34 million and should play the waiting game until the Spanish club gives in. The Rojiblancos are aware that Trippier has entered the last two years of his current deal.

United are not in a dire need of a right-back at this moment with backup options available for Solskjaer, Ole just wanted to sign a right-back who could give competition to AWB, which they could get in Trippier. The former Spurs player offers a greater threat while going forward during attacks and in set-pieces and this is what prompted United to go after the Atleti right-back.

The best-case scenario would be if Atletico Madrid accept the offer made by Manchester United for Trippier, thus fulfilling the player’s wish for a switch back to the Premier League. Even if the transfer does not pan out, United are well backed by Diogo Dalot for the right-back role.
