Man Utd Close In On Alderweireld As Deal For Mina Collapses

Toby Alderweireld, Manchester United Transfer

Yerry Mina‘s move to Old Trafford has hit the wall as even long-reported suitors Everton also pull out. The defender has been left without a Barcelona exit route after a transfer to Manchester United collapsed with the Red Devils plotting a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld.[spacer height=”30px”]

The Colombian international has been in the market for a move away from the La Liga champions all summer after a disappointing stint at the club following his mid-season arrival. Mina failed to break into Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI, playing just five times in the league after his January move from Palmeiras.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Despite a strong World Cup performance that saw him score three goals in Russia, the centre-back has been pushed further down the Barca depth chart with the arrival of Clement Lenglet. A move to Everton had long been thought to be on the cards, but the youngster had emerged as a target for Manchester United in recent days as they looked for an alternative after Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham’s Alderweireld appeared too expensive.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The Mirror suggest that the spurs defender is prepared to run down his contract if he does not complete a move to the red side of Manchester in the summer transfer window. The report says Alderweireld is so set on a move to Old Trafford that he would be prepared to wait and leave the club on a free next season if Jose Mourinho‘s side are priced out of a transfer for the him this summer.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The Londoners are shrewd negotiators and it is believed they will demand a fee of up to £75m for the Belgian international this summer. However, the English giants could be reluctant to pay such a fee, especially considering the player will trigger a £25m release clause in his contract if Tottenham take the option of an optional extra-year next summer. Mourinho remains keen to recruit a new centre-back before next week’s deadline but could be forced to look elsewhere if there is no movement over a fee.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]However, it seems as if the Manchester outfit have moved closer toward landing Alderweireld, and have moved on from their efforts to sign Mina. While that would appear to clear the way for the Barca man to move to Everton, it is also understood that the Toffees have pulled their offer for the defender.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Meanwhile, the Merseyside outfit have been frustrated over the way negotiations have been carried out, believing they have been used in the process. With the two Premier League clubs having rescinded their offers, it leaves Mina with no suitors at the current time. A move to England would have to materialise in the next few days, as the Premier League window closes August 9.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]However, that would not necessarily end the chances for Mina to find a new home as most other leagues have a later transfer deadline, with a move still possible elsewhere until August 31.[spacer height=”30px”]
