Why Manchester United Desperately Need To Sign Bruno Fernandes Before It Gets Too Late

Bruno Fernandes, Bruno

From day one of the summer transfer window, the rumor mill has linked Bruno Fernandes of Sporting CP to Manchester United. However, with less than ten days to go for the transfer window to slam shut, the Red Devils are yet to sign the midfielder from Sporting CP.

But, according to the recent reports from Italy, Bruno Fernandes is just a step away from joining the Old Trafford based outfit. Gianluca Di Marzio, a very reputed Italian journalist, has stated that Manchester United are all set to sign the player for a fee around £62 million from the Portuguese club.

Manchester United are all on a full stretch to sign players from different clubs in order to strengthen their team before the Premier League 2019/20 season kicks off. Moreover, the fans and the club officials are eager to sign the 24-year-old midfielder. But there remains the question.

Why should Manchester United sign the playmaker? And what can he offer to the club?

His Style of Play:

Bruno Fernandes has played in a variety of roles for Sporting CP. However, he was more often used in an attacking role either as No 10 or a creative central midfielder. Across all competitions, Bruno scored a total of 20 goals in his 33 appearances for the club. Apart from that, he was directly involved in a goal for about 13 times in the Portuguese top tier.

As a creative midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has all the attributes it takes to be a Manchester United player. He is energetic and tenacious in the midfield. One can consider him as a complete midfielder as he can carve out the goal while building from the back.

Analyzing Manchester United’s Pre-Season So Far

Playing in the attacking front for most of the season, he created 3.2 key passes per game. Also, he has 0.9 dribbles per game, which shows how good the player is. Apart from his attacking stats, the Portuguese has quite impressive defensive stats as well. During the 2018/19 season, Bruno made 1.7 tackles per game and he has been fouled 2.1 times per game. The 24-year-old is also capable of taking long shots and in the process, putting a few at the back of the net.

With excellent stats backing him up, signing him would definitely benefit and beef up the Manchester United midfield.

How Could United Lineup With Bruno Fernandes?

The Red Devils lacked creativity in midfield last season. They failed to create chances against teams having a crowded and tight defense. However, signing Bruno Fernandes can change things quite a bit. The midfielder is a twinkle-toed operator. He is brisk and can break any possible defense with the aid of other attackers. Also, his creativeness can spice up the attack for the club.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United have played high pressing and attacking games. Adding his versatility, OGS should use him as a midfielder on the right flank with Paul Pogba paired with him on the left flank of the midfield and Scott McTominay playing deep in front of the defense.

In front of Pogba and Bruno, United can deploy Anthony Martial and Daniel James on the wings with Marcus Rashford leading from the front. This would surely help the free-flowing attacking style of football the Red Devils play with a perfect blend of technique, raw pace and agility

Opinion:

Manchester United should go all out for the Sporting CP midfielder. He can be a very crucial missing link in the United midfield. Signing Bruno can allow Paul Pogba to perform his role more independently. With just 8 days to go in the transfer window, it is now over to Mr. Ed Woodward.
