United Show Interest In Highly Rated Serie A Star As Talks For Wan-Bissaka Drag On

Manchester United are keeping their options open in their pursuit of a new right-back, and are now showing an interest in Elseid Hysaj.

Hysaj plays for Napoli, having signed for them back in 2015. He has made 170 appearances for the Serie A giants and has grown in stature since the fresh-faced 21-year old that signed for them four years ago. However, having seen himself player a far lesser role than he would have liked under Carlo Ancelotti last season, he has publicly declared his desire to move on.

“I’m absolutely ready for a new challenge because I need change,” he told DigitAlb recently.

“I’m not the type of person who likes to stay at a club for too long.

“I want to have new experiences, learn about a new country, meet new people, play for another team and maybe try to win something.

“For me, my time at Napoli is over and I hope to find a team that will give me what I need.”

United are keeping tabs on Hysaj’s situation at Napoli as they haggle with Crystal Palace over a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.  The Red Devils are desperate to get the transfer sealed and negotiations done and dusted with, but Palace are holding firm in their demands. The Eagles are determined to secure close to £60 million for the right-back, and have turned down two bids worth £40m and £50m so far.

Wan-Bissaka is undoubtedly United’s first choice signing for the right-back role, but they are understandably growing agitated at how difficult negotiations have been. Hence, while they work on a move for the u-21 Englishman, they are continuing to keep a watch on other targets in case the deal does fall through.

Hysaj has been a target for United since November, when Jose Mourinho was still at the club. The club are aware of his stance on his future at Napoli, and have reportedly made contact with the Serie A giants about a potential move to bring him to Old Trafford. They will face competition from Atletico Madrid though, who are also keen on bringing in defensive reinforcements and have kept a close eye on the Albanian.
