€18m Rated United Midfielder has Joined Newly Promoted Premier League Side

Jesse Lingard, West Ham, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have signed Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on a free transfer this summer. The former United attacker rejected West Ham to join the newly promoted Premier League club after becoming a free agent last month.

The English attacking midfielder spent 14 years with the Red Devils, joining as a youth player in 2008. The 29-year-old progressed through the ranks at United’s youth academy before being promoted to the senior team in 2014. He made a total of 231 appearances (stats via Transfermarkt) across all competitions, scoring 35 goals and assisting 21 times.

The England international spent a highly successful loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the 20/21 season. Lingard scored nine goals and provided five assists in 16 Premier League appearances (stats via Transfermarkt) for the Hammers. He run down his contract with the Manchester club to go through the exit door as a free agent last month.

As reported by Metro, Jesse Lingard signed a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest, with no option to extend for another year. He will reportedly earn around £80,000 a week, which could rise up to £120,000 a week depending on performance related bonuses.

The 29-year-old fell out of favour at Old Trafford under then manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was rumoured with an exit at the beginning of the 20/21 season. He decided to leave on loan to West Ham for regular game-time in January 2021. He ended up having a highly effective six-month loan spell, helping the Hammers finish 6th in the Premier League.

Following the loan stint, David Moyes’ side tried to sign him permanently last summer, but failed to agree a deal with the Red Devils. West Ham, again, made an attempt to sign him this summer. However, the deal went cold as the East London club was unable to agree on personal terms with the midfielder.

Thus, Jesse Lingard decided upon joining Nottingham Forest and will be their 11th signing this summer. The attacking midfielder will be joining up with his former United teammate Dean Henderson, who joined Forest on loan earlier this month.

Lingard endured an underwhelming 2021-22 campaign with the Red Devils, scoring just two goals in 16 Premier League appearances with a total game-time of 355 minutes (stats via Transfermarkt). Nevertheless, it will be exciting to see how things pan out for the former Manchester United midfielder.
