Inter Milan are prepared to offer Mauro Icardi in a cash plus player move for Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to reports.
Manchester United have been in the market for a new striker this summer, following a lackluster season by all of the club’s forwards last season. Despite scoring 15 goals with 4 assists in 45 games last season, the striker came in for plenty of criticism for his performances. His lack of movement and his shocking first touch have been pointed out on several occasions. His physical shape has also been questioned, as his overly bulky figure has noticeably slowed him down. He lost his place in the team to Marcus Rashford last season, and might not be the club’s main striker for the upcoming season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer either.
Belgium’s all time leading goalscorer is by no means short of suitors. Inter Milan though, have shown the most interest and are keen on making a move this summer according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The Serie A giants are considering moving Mauro Icardi on in the summer after their relationship deteriorated following comments from his wife Wanda Nara. The striker was stripped of the club’s captaincy in February, and then refused to play for the club in their Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna. After that incident, he didn’t play for the club again till the 3rd of April.
United are not keen to replace Lukaku unless they can sign a replacement beforehand. Icardi would be a marvelous option for the club, given his incredible scoring record, with 124 goals in 219 appearances for the Italian giants. However, concerns over his history of constant controversy are understandable.
Gazzetta dello Sport go on to report that the Old Trafford outfit have flat out refused a deal involving Icardi, and are only holding out for cash at the moment.
The report goes on to suggest that United have slapped an €80 million price tag on him. Inter have baulked at the asking price, and are not willing to pay that much for a striker who isn’t on top of his game.
Lukaku has openly stated his admiration for both the Nerazzurri and their new manager Antonio Conte, who is just as keen on bringing the striker to the San Siro. However, the price might be a stumbling block in a move for the 26-year-old going through.
Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has also come out and said that it would be better if Lukaku moved on from United this summer. Martinez told Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws:
“It’s clear that Romelu Lukaku needs to leave Man United”,
“It would be good for both parties.
“It’s now up to Rom to find the right club.”
