With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being appointed as the caretaker manager of Manchester United for the rest of the season, the Club is planning to appoint a new permanent manager and a Technical Director of football in the long run.
Former United legend and pundit Gary Neville was quoted as saying that the new manager must follow the key principles of the club which includes promotion of young talents, playing entertaining football and the ability to win matches. Along with this the next manager should possess the ability to improve the players that he has at his disposal and should be able to make key signings to address the weaknesses of his squad.
So let’s look at that possible managers on our list.
Mauricio Pochettino
It has to be said Mauricio Pochettino is one the most consistent managers in the Premier League with his Tottenham side managing to finish in second and third positions in the last few years while operating on a limited budget. Pochettino is also capable of developing young players as can be seen in the dramatic rise of Dele Alli and Harry Kane who both have won Player of the Year awards during his reign.

With United having plenty of exciting youngsters like Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes, Pochettino would be the ideal manager to bred the next generation of United superstars. However, United would have to make leave his current Tottenham side where he is enjoying a fair amount of success in both the Champions League and Premier League.
Zinedine Zidane
Zinedine Zidane is out of job at the moment and would be welcomed by the fans at Old Trafford if the club decides to do so. Part of the reason would be his incredible success in the Champions League which he had won a record three times with Real Madrid. Apart from this he has also won one La Liga title, two UEFA Super Cups, two Club World Cups and one Spanish Super Cup.
Zidane also puts his trust in younger players which was seen in his short tenure as a manager at Real Madrid when he gave chances to Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Casemiro. But question marks still remain over his ability to develop the players which is a prerequisite for the United job and on whether he can adjust to the Premier league’s atmosphere. However, I would be happy if he proved that wrong.
Laurent Blanc
Laurent Blanc was another name that popped up along with Solskjaer for the interim manager role. He has an incredible record in the Ligue 1 with his Paris Saint Germain side winning four Ligue 1 titles, 5 French Super Cups and four French League Cups. As a former United player he would know the history and culture of the club and has proved himself already to be a winner and is also capable of managing big personalities like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edison Cavani and Angel Di Maria.
The only downfall to appointing him as a manager would that he has currently not managed a club for two years which is a considerable amount of time and might be a little rusty at the moment to take on the United manager role.
Leonardo Jardim
Jardim achieved his highest success with AS Monaco when his side led by the performances of an upcoming star Kylian Mbappe managed to win the Ligue 1 title in 2017. Although it has to be said that winning the Premier league would not be that easy.
But the 42-year-old has some interesting facts about him which make him one of the top European coaches in the World. He left his Olympiakos side 6 months after the team won the title unbeaten and ten points clear at the top. He also managed to guide his youthful Monaco team to the semi-finals of the Champions League which is no mean feat.
