United on the Verge of Announcing Deal for €65m English Striker

Rashford

Manchester United are understood to have begun talks with Marcus Rashford over a new and improved contract, according to reports.

The young forward has been in imperious form of late. He has scored a stunning 6 goals in his last 11 games and has been crucial to United’s brilliant resurgence since December. The club know that Rashford is one of those young players who will carry them to greater heights and are keen to tie him down to a new deal as soon as possible.

Rashford’s current deal with United runs till 2020, although the club do have their infamous ‘option to extend for a further year’ clause in his contract. There is still time to sort out a deal but with a club like Real Madrid eyeing a potential move, they will want to secure his future and make a statement of intent.

A number of key players have benefited from the sacking of Jose Mourinho, and the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his place. However, it would be hard to argue that the change has impacted anyone as much as it has Rashford.

The young striker was suffering from a very evident lack of confidence under his former boss. The appointment of Solskjaer, a legendary United striker, seemed perfect for him at this stage of his career.

Needless to say, it has worked wonders. Rashford now has 6 goals in his last 11 games. His return of 10 goals in all competitions means he is on course to reach, and overtake, his highest goal return in a season for United so far. The 13 goals he scored last season remains his highest, and he is now just 3 away from that mark with quite a lot of games still to go. He is also just one shy of reaching double figures in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Should United seek their title winning ways, tying down Rashford to a new deal is a no-brainer. Anthony Martial, another player who will be extremely important to the club in the coming years, recently signed a new long-term deal. They should now turn their focus on securing a deal for the Englishman.

In the mean time, the club continue to work on new deals for Ander Herrera and David de Gea. The two have been crucial to this United side and with their contracts running down, the club will be desperate to see them stay.
