According to reports, Manchester United are looking at Raphael Varane as their solution to build a rock solid defense.
The football season is coming to an end in about 2 months from now. It is no secret that Manchester United are on the look for a reliable Central Defender to pair up with Victor Lindelof.
Even before the start of the transfer window, various media sources have linked multiple central defenders to Manchester United. One such story churned out from the rumor mill is that of World Cup winner, Raphael Varane, who is expected to join the Red Army next season for a record-breaking sensational world record transfer fee of £100m.
Varane’s season has been patchy at the best if we were to go by his performances. He hasn’t quite delivered his best performances under the two new Madrid managers. This season, he has been ill at ease and seems unhappy at Santiago Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old is a highly sought-after defender in the footballing world. Four champions league titles, two La Liga’s, multiple domestic cups and a World Cup under his belt and Varane is only 26.
Raphaël Varane has now won 16 trophies in his senior career for club & country:

Yes, the Frenchman has quite unbelievable stats. His pace, accuracy, precision, aerial power and tackles are spot on. Something that is expected of a center half from a major club like United, but has been missing since the last 6 years.
Various media channels suggest that Varane has been offered to United by his brother, who also happens to be his agent. The only problem in the deal is the high transfer fee and the extravagant wage demands.
Since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, the wage structure of United has completely turned into a mess. Bowing to the defender’s wage demands guarantees that each and every United player will want more than what they deserve and will ruin the club wage structure completely.
A haphazard defense has resulted in the club falling from grace since Sir Alex retired. Smalling, Jones, Baily or Rojo, none of them have the capabilities or technical abilities to be a Manchester United defender, or atleast seems so.
Victor Lindelof of late has shown some positive signs and looks set to be the future of the Red’s central defense. Signing Varane next season would be a perfect reinforcement for the shambolic defense and will definitely boost United’s title bid.
Ole and Woodward have to workout a deal to get rid of the deadwood in the club and make some high-profile signings that can enhance the stature of the club on and off the field.

Reports have suggested that Ed has told Ole that he will be receiving a war-chest to sign the players he wants. These reports are clear indications that United will no longer settle for 2nd or 3rd choice players and only the best deserve the badge.
It would be pretty ironic if Varane is signed now from Real Madrid. In 2011, Sir Alex turned down the opportunity to sign the 18-year-old wonderkid in pursuit of Phil Jones. 8 years down the lane, The Reds would sign the man they rejected to replace their first choice.
