Manchester United have confirmed that Juan Mata, whose contract was set to expire on July 1st, has been granted a contract extension up until 2021, with the option to have the contract extended for another additional year.
“It is a real honour to continue to represent this amazing club and our incredible fans. I have been at Manchester United for five years and I am proud to call Old Trafford my home.”
“I am looking forward to working with Ole and his fantastic coaching staff; the vision they have for the club is truly exciting and I am so happy that I will be a part of that.”
Juan Mata is one of the senior players in Solskjaer’s squad. Solskjaer has reaffirmed his confidence in the 31 year old by calling Mata “the ultimate professional” and adding that he was “one of the most intelligent players” that he has worked with. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke to Manchester United’s official website:
“He is a great example to our younger players in his approach. He understands what it means to be a Manchester United player and has embraced everything about this great club.”
“As well as everything he brings on the pitch, we have some fantastic young players here and I know that Juan’s vast experience will help them to reach their potential over the coming seasons.”
However, not all United fans seem to mirror Solskjaer’s delight on Mata’s contract extension. Some are absolutely against it, some just seem to have slight constraints, while others are on seventh heaven.
So let me get this right. Some United fans are happy we've given Juan Mata a three year contract because it's good to have a cheerleader and apologetic Monday morning blog writer on 140k a week

Ultimately, I don't see too much of an issue with Juan Mata's extension.
I know he's 31, but he can drop in and drop out of the team throughout the season and can still make a difference.
BUT, he has to play as an attacking midfielder and not on the wing.

Juan Mata has created 229 chances since his first full season at Man Utd, more than any other player at the club during that time.

Juan Mata was definitely no exceptional player this season, starting 16 league games, scoring 3 goals and assisting 2. However, it has been a black season for the entire team at Old Trafford, so criticism cannot be shed at Mata. Mata is now all set to be a part of Solskjaer’s new plans for Manchester United in the coming season, where he will be looking to restore United’s former glory.
An area that worries fans is the lack of signings this transfer window. Moreover, the rumours of both Pogba’s and Lukaku’s exit have fans on their toes. Currently, United are said to be contesting for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Issa Diop.
Will united come back next season with the necessary mindset and firepower to earn a place in the Champions League’s 2020 edition? Will Solskjaer be hailed as United’s hero? These are questions to which fans across the world wait expectantly wait for answers.
