Manchester United’s Next Transfer Target Confirmed as Club Sets up Meeting With €100 mil-Rated Midfielder

Eduardo Camavinga, United, Stade Rennais

Manchester United are already on the move for their next transfer target, with the Jadon Sancho deal close to completion. According to reports from the Daily Mail, United are targeting to sign Rennes’ teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga. The Red Devils will be competing with the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich, PSG, and Real Madrid, who have all expressed an interest in the central-midfielder in the past few months.

United have been long-time admirers of the wide forward and tried to bring him to Old Trafford last season, but a deal couldn’t be agreed between the clubs. He will finally be returning to the Premier League as Dortmund and United are supposed to formally agree on a deal worth at least £77.4 million (€90 million) this week.

United are hoping to sign a central defensive partner for Maguire and a backup for Wan-Bissaka for the right-back role. Solskjaer also wants to sign a central midfielder who can act as the midfield pivot and let Pogba and Fernandes flourish.

Ole currently sees Eduardo Camavinga as that perfect midfield player and United could secure the player this summer as Rennes are open to selling him with his contract ending next summer. However, Rennes have put a whopping €100 million price tag on the 18-year-old midfielder, according to a report by RMC Sport (via AS), which makes it difficult for United to splurge on if they are already signing Sancho this summer.

With 80 senior appearances for club and country, the Frenchman has been nothing short of impressive. He already has three caps for France and scored in his debut, gathering praise from his teammates including Pogba. The teenage sensation made 39 first-team appearances for Stade Rennais last season, with four of those starts coming in the Champions League.

According to RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi (via Mirror), Manchester United have officially expressed interest in signing Camavinga. Manchester United are set to meet with Camavinga’s representatives next week to convince the player to come to Old Trafford.

However, the report also suggests that Camavinga’s first choice is PSG as he wishes to continue playing in the French league. Despite this, the Red Devils are hopeful of convincing the player when the two parties meet. Camavinga’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, is also the agent for Luke Shaw and is considered one of the best in his job. In an interview with The Athletic last month, he stated:

“We have probably the best young player in the world in Camavinga,”

“Believe me we have a lot of offers for this year, a lot of offers, and good ones. I mean top, top clubs.”

“We don’t want to rush. There is the right time to move on and playing games is the most important thing at his age.”

Camavinga is undeniably one of the biggest rising stars currently plying their trade in Europe, proving his class as a first-team starter for Stade Rennais. He would be a brilliant midfield choice for Solskjaer, with Pogba’s future at the club uncertain as of now. Moreover, Matic is no longer able to provide the presence that he once contributed to United as a box-to-box midfielder. Van de Beek could also possibly be on the move after a disappointing season at Old Trafford, as rumours suggest.

Hence, with United wanting to compete for the Premier League next season, they are deeply in need of a prolific central-midfielder, someone who can contribute defensively while also being involved in attacking plays on occasion.

Camavinga would fit this role perfectly as he has proven useful in multiple areas of the midfield, mainly in a defensive position. He could play in front of the two centre-backs, helping them defend, while also distributing balls to other areas. This would allow the more attacking-minded midfielders, such as United’s star-man Bruno Fernandes, freedom to roam the pitch and break down opposition defences.

We have to wait to see how things may turn out with Camavinga, with United still being in the early stages of the transfer talks.
