Manchester United are reconsidering the prospect of bringing Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.
United had shown a serious interest in signing Tielemans a while ago. The midfielder played against United for Anderlecht during the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the 2016-17 season and put in a superb performance despite, his side eventually going on to lose the tie 3-2. It was the tie that really alerted the club about his potential and Jose Mourinho seemed genuinely interested in signing the youngster.
However, he ended up signing for Ligue 1 side Monaco the following summer and United’s interest died down. However, the talented youngster endured a torrid start to life as a player for the French side, starting very few games and failing to take opportunities when given to him.
He suffered a big dip in form and things were going so badly that he was named in both lists of ‘biggest flops of the first half of the season’ as well as the entire season overall by France Football.
After failing to make much of an impact in the first half of last season yet again, with 5 goals and 1 assist in 20 games, Monaco decided to send him out on loan in hope that he would rediscover himself. It goes without saying that it was the best decision they could possibly have taken, for both themselves and the player.
Tielemans moved to Leicester City in January this year and starred for the club in the few games he managed to play before the end of the season. In just 13 Premier League games, the midfielder scored 3 goals and notched 5 assists alongside them. His form brought him back into the spotlight once more and his future is currently a subject of much debate.
According to reliable Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, United have been in contact with Tielemans for over a month now and are ‘hoping to get a deal done’ for the 22-year-old.The journo spread the news in a tweet which read:
Man United have been in touch over Youri Tielemans again. Leicester are hoping to get a deal done, but Solskjaer likes the Belgian international. United are keeping close attention – talks with his agents. Tielemans wont return to Monaco. Spurs have other priorities. #mufc #lcfc pic.twitter.com/t2m0w5fXLN

Leicester are eager to bring him back to the King Power stadium, but Manchester United are undoubtedly the more desirable destination. United are also in need of a new midfielder following the departure of Ander Herrera. However, there is a lot of fear that they might lose Paul Pogba to Real Madrid this summer too.
Los Blancos have not given up on their pursuit of the star, despite United’s insistence that they will not let him go. In case the Frenchman decides to hand in a transfer request, the club will already have their replacements if they sign players now and avoid a panic buy.
