Mourinho and Ed Woodward are at loggerheads with each other after a woeful summer transfer window.

There’s something odd about everything Manchester United have done since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. With three new managers in the last 6 years, they still don’t look any closer to winning major silverware. Their transfer woes are very common and the manager’s moaning over the way the transfers are done too.

Though United have spent a lot on bringing in new players to taste victory, nothing seems to be helping them. Mourinho has been open about the way Ed Woodward’s been doing the business and doesn’t seem to like it.

According to Independent , United are looking to add a new layer of management to the club. This could turn out to be the most important position held by any name in the club’s history. Also, United have never had a position of ‘Director of Football‘ in recent years, which was half of Alex Ferguson’s job.

If sources are to be believed, United are looking for someone like Edwin Van Der Sar, who has done a great job at Ajax as he held the same position over there as well. It is also being reported that the Red Devils could possibly knock on Roma’s door, where their transfer chief Monchi could be roped in for the role. Juventus also could lose Fabio Paratici if United come calling.

This new appointment could help lower the tension between Mourinho and Ed Woodward. ‘Director of Football’ would be dealing closely with the recruiting and scouting team, and later lay down a long term plan of bringing in players who could help United win and also stay for a longer period rather than a brief one with no proper outcome for both the club and the player. With United also adding a new department to their footballing world, the Women’s team could benefit from this too.

Edwin Van Der Sar has been regarded as the ‘more favorable’ over the others, already a known entity in the United’s history having previously played for the club. Only time can tell what the new appointment could possibly bring to the club, but United atleast need to try something new to bring success back to the club.
