[spacer height=”20px”]Arsenal is being heavily linked with Croatian Defender Domagoj Vida after Calum Chambers has been sent to Fulham for a season long loan by Arsenal as transfer window draws to a closure.

There is no doubt that Calum Chambers presence will be missed at the defence as at times he has performed out of his experience,at the age of just 23 years but apparently he’s deemed surplus to the need of the Gunners and now they are back in the transfer market for a defender in the form of Vida who plays for Besiktas in Turkey.

Chambers joined Middlesbrough on loan a year ago and it seems like history is repeating himself, this time with Fulham. Unai Emery spoke of high of him and and was known to have a major part in the extension offered to the Ex-Southampton Player who signed an extension only in last November under Arsene Wenger.

“We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season.”

Unai Emery’s word is the confirmation about the defender’s return in the Gunners. So, it’s a matter of one season only.

Now that Calum has sent to loan,Arsenal are back in hunt for a defender and The Sun reported that the new Gunners chief is looking to bolster his defence again ahead of their season opener and is keen on former Liverpool target Vida. Emerging reports say that Vida deal will incude cash plus David Ospina going the other way as Besiktas Officials already reported to be in London for the deal.

Arsenal seem to look a tad light in the centre back department now that Holding being the direct second choice centreback due to Koscielny’s long time absence. Rob Holding has been impresive since his arrival from Bolton, although he lacks composure  and still needs time to develop and that is forcing the Gunners to buy a centre back, linking them heavily with Domagoj Vida.

Domagoj Vida is a Croatian defender who plays for Turkish club Besiktas. Vida is capable of playing in any defensive position, although in the World Cup,he was mostly deployed in centre back or right back positon. He is known to be good in aerial duels and for his quick passing, which really helped Croatia in their magnificent journey to the World cup final, only to lose in front of an all-out France Team. Vida though is a controversial character throughout his life, but not the one who causes problems within the team.

Although,Vida is known to be a physical and good in the air,the attributes which will help him to adapt the Premier League at a higher pace. Vida is described as a player with a great mentality and the fighting spirit which the Gunners have lacked at times. Although he is known to be clumsy at times in possession and his own decision making has gotten himself into trouble many times.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Vida, aged 29 years, looks to be in his prime after having a brilliant World Cup with Crotia, although Arsenal has already signed a centre back of the same age bracket and signing another centre back  of the same for a fee of 15-20 million looks a bit senseless. One might debate whether this is a panic buy as Chambers leaves a void and lessens our options at the back  and we can consider som other defenders younger and more composed or it a good move for now based on his World Cup Performances and with transfer window draws to a close in the next 24 Hours.

Arsenal has already signed two experienced defenders; center back Sokratis Papasthopoulos from Borusia Dortmund and Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus and now if they sign Vida, one question sure arises that whether it will be a panic-buy or a good strategial move from the Gunners. Only time will tell as only 24 hours remain for the transfer window to shutdown.
